[Buried Hatchet] Flying is an interesting and rather novel sensation for the Fiann. Flying while being carried by an Ahroun adds a layer of strangeness to the experience, but it doesn't matter. He's somewhere else during the brief trip to the smoothie shop, focused somewhere else. He's steeling himself for the fight, and seems bizarrely calm compared to the raging werewolf that was destroying everything around him in the first two minutes after his packmate's death.
When they land, he looks to Soledad first, checking to see if she's all right. She has her hair tied back, spear in hand, talens ready at her side should she need them. She nods to him. He turns to Lukas and nods as well. Both currently living and present members of Weasel's Gang are -- usual for one and strange for the other -- utterly silent.
[Wyrmbreaker] Wyrmbreaker, as it turns out, does not drop Hatchet. Nor does Caleb drop Soledad. The two remaining members of the Weasels -- in this city, anyway -- get a free ride through the umbra, and whatever Hatchet might want to say and smirk about it afterward, the truth is:
It's a fucking rush, cruising as fast as a wolf can run five hundred feet off the ground, the shadows of skyscrapers flashing by, the living whirlwind of the Circle's totem gyring overhead.
When they're there, the descent is rapid enough to be terrifying: a free-fall out of the air. The Ahroun brakes sharply at the last second. His Crinos footpaws touch the umbral ground just outside the reflection of Juiced!, and the Circle is complete -- diminished, but complete -- and their totem at the zenith of its power.
Quickly, Lukas reviews the plan for Sam and Sampson: the Weasels Shroud the storefront and set a big fucking fire; drive the enemies out the back. The Circle waits at the door to fall upon them as they come running out, while the Weasels hide in darkness to pick off those that try to run through the fire.
Beginning formation is simple enough: the two Ahrouns and one Ragabash shoulder to shoulder to shoulder at the backdoor, the Theurge behind them with bow and arrow, and with healing at ready if need be -- a modified version of the defensive ring.
Talens are passed out. Activated. Soledad gets Lukas's 5-gallon jug of gasoline and, if she needs it, somebody's lighter.
And then that's it. Unless there's more to say, Caleb is elected the Gauntlet-breacher, and leads his pack across to the Realm.
[Caleb Delacourt-Alden] Much to the Silver Fang's chagrin, he was the one appointed to carry Soledad. It wasn't exactly as if the two had much of a choice, Lukas being the ad-hoc alpha carrying the alpha of Weasel's Gang while Caleb was left to carry Hatchet's beta.
When they landed, the Silver Fang released the woman immediately and straightened his sword that was scabbarded on a belt around his waist, and unlimbered his bow and checked to see if any of his bane arrows had fallen out, the quiver balancing the sword, at his right hip.
Bedecked for war, Caleb wore his bracers and shoulder plates.

[Mjollnir's Heart] When they arrive Sam pushes himself back into the world from where he peeks through the umbra in the mouth of a space between building where he and the new moon had ripped asunder the phantasm only a few minutes before. In the ground in front of him is a bag weighed down by a large jug of clear noxious fluid that rests inside.
Lukas' car is at the appointed spot, parked crossways and with those of two other pedestrians moved to do the same. A bottleneck. The other two cars are clawed up their rear ends where something larger than two men one sitting on the other's shoulders has dragged them with sharp and angry fingers rather than putting them in drive.
The Modi himself is in his warform, his longsword at the ready and blazing with all of the full moon's inspiration, Rage and the face of his tribal totem. He is a living anthem to war, a beast with man's mind given the charge of destruction to those who would watch the world burn around them.
Vengeance on his mind he too, is silent. Ready.
[Skinny Legs] Sampson had got his orders from Lukas on teh phone; he waits in the shadows behind the store, lurking, waiting in silence with Sam, ready to intercept the truck or exiting bits of evil once Lukas's plan goes off.
It's a good plan.
It's a NOISY plan.
Tonight, the more violence the better, to purge the gaping loss they all feel. Revenge will be sweet.

[Recycling] The only thing that has changed since the Ragabash and the Modi arrived the better part of an hour ago is that the weather has taken a turn for the worse and the sun is now completely beyond the horizon, the moon hovering overhead fat and angry, as though Luna knows exactly what has gone down this night.
One has to imagine that Luna is fucking pissed.
They come by air, four of them, to join the two on the ground. And they have been plotting and they have their plan, but they do not have as much visibility of the front of the building as they had had when the sun was still lingering in the moments before the rain set in. It is coming down in a soft blanket now, not a hard falling pelt, and those who are at the front of the store can see that the interior lights are dimmed.
The red back door is propped open, revealing a barely-lit kitchen and emitting voices from within. In the not-so-distant distance, a Mack truck's engine grunts.
[Buried Hatchet] At very least it will be easy for Soledad to black out the front of the store, with the darkness already getting thicker and the rain coming down. She'll have visibility; Hatchet, fighting alongside her, will have to do as he has done time and time again in the past and just suffer through it. He's gotten lucky. All one has to do to see how lucky is look at him when he's barechested. How is he even alive?
To look at his eyes, though, right now, you'd never ask. He doesn't look like he is.
They go over the plan again. Soledad hefts the gasoline, and she does as Caleb did for the Circle: she takes herself and Hatchet across the Gauntlet and they leave the Unbroken Circle to go to the front of the building. It's sort of ironic: the Cold Death at Hatchet's side is bringing fire.
[Caleb Delacourt-Alden] Caleb lead his people across the gauntlet; it was a theurge's duty to do so. Some might think that he was boiling with anger and vengeace, but not quite. He was certainly boiling with something all right, but the Rage within him has been tempered like molten steel. Hard, strong, cold and unfeeling.
They had people to kill, people that killed their own people. It is time for pay-back, payback for the death of Mrena Armstrong, and Ryan Shepherd. When two packs work in concert, one could expect no less.
Whence they were across the gauntlet, the theurge looked to Lukas to signal the beginning. That truck in the distance caused his ears to perk, but when the others took to their war-forms, so would the theurge, with bane arrow knocked to bow.
[Mjollnir's Heart] The Circle's Modi moves to the rest of his pack the booming sounds of the crinos form in the high speech of their people giving a prayer to his forebears for assistance, that he might be lend their strength and prowess. That his packmate might be avenged tonight by the steel he carries.
It's a minute, then two for him to finish the words before he nods in the building's direction, noting the few slight changes that have happened since the last comminuque from the front to their de facto alpha. Pointing here and there at where somone may've moved or where the blinds had rustled. None of it changes anything and the plan is clear. It's time to move out.

[Skinny Legs] Sampson moves into the nearest dark shadow, and begins shifting forward, up, for he is empty of Luna's anger, and this moon is not his own. He is not.. handsome, as he shifts. In fact, the phases of the Strider are pretty gangly, rather like himself, a werewolf on stilty, skinny legs.
His anger shifts with him, his sorrow.
Owl spreads her wings tonight, to carry Mrena to her tribal lands. Part of him goes with her.

[Wyrmbreaker] Lukas is alert to the changes. The back door is open. The front -- well, he can't see it from here. But he can hear the approaching truck, and their time was running out.
More than likely they'll be interrupted. But it's too late to change the plan; they're committed now. He claps Hatchet and Soledad briefly on the shoulder, a sort of mute pre-battle camaraderie that takes the place of anything more formal, and as the Weasels circle around front Lukas starts toward the back, measuring his pace, keeping it leisurely and slow to give Hatchet and Sol time, keeping his ears open for the sound of breaking glass, flames; the sort.
As he nears, the Ahroun begins to grow in size -- gradually.

[Recycling] The sound of a large vehicle is unmistakeable. It takes massive amounts of diesel fuel and mechanical power to move the damn things, and an incredible amount of skill and dedication to pilot them. Large commercial vehicles such as the Mack that is coming down the one-way street now don't stop easily.
Especially not in the rain.
Especially not in the dark.
The driver's visibility is reduced, and whoever it is cannot see Lukas's vehicle until the Mack is literally right on top of it. It slows down to prepare to make the reverse turn into the Juiced! parking lot, and then plows through the parked MKZ as though it were not even there to begin with. Metal squeals, glass explodes...
... but the Mack is untouched. It is only Lukas's road block that shoots out of the way, broken and discarded, yet still in better shape than the body of his Alpha inside. His car can be salvaged. His car should be the least of his worries right now.
Beeping, flashing red lights, and the Mack pulls into the parking lot. It idles for a moment, and a face peers out of the passenger-side window.
Out front, the lights go out.
[Buried Hatchet] A clap on the shoulder gets him a dead stare from Soledad and a brief pause from Hatchet. The Philodox glances at him but it isn't a cold stare or a scowl. He just flickers slightly, as though jarred somewhat from his reverie, and then he keeps walking. They are still in homid, out in view of the street, and it's not long enough past sunset that they can shift like the Garou in back without taking too much of a risk. Hatchet is standing guard. He and Sol hear, but do not see, the Mack truck plow into Lukas's MKZ.
Hatchet doesn't smirk, or laugh, or grimace. He nods quickly to her, and she brings down the darkness.

The housewife starts to make her way to the back, hearing commotion and fleeing the store in hopes of dealing with whatever is outside. Plans were to be made, to be executed. She is met with a very large, very angry Fenrir. Sam focuses, Sam is trained, and Sam knows what he's doing. The first slash is all grace and poise and finesse, but that seems to be all it is. All it seems to do is knick the front of her chest, causing burgundy blood to spill forth and stain her shirt.
Sam covers the pack's back while Sampson and the rest deal with those in the truck. The first claw was fast, aimed and poised but it did little good. All it brought about was a trickle of blood. The Circle was fast- Sampson was fast, they played to each other's strengths. The next hit that Sampson lands is solid. And the passender of the truck seems unphased, seems cocky, seems like he could take on the world-
He doesn't notice when Lukas digs his claws in. He doesn't notice when his intestines hit the ground and rotting filth spills downward. He doesn't even notice when he dies. Falls to the ground, bleeds and drops the gun from his hand.
Wyrmbreaker is not satisfied.
Caleb, at the center of it all, aims his bow and fires one shot at the driver. the driver with the twelve gauge. The driver who seems unphased and does not falter. The shot is true, but it knicks his temple. When Caleb shoots again, he evens it up, but the driver is not injured. Not enough to make a difference though. Not enough to bring him down, but enough to make him more grotesque.
the driver hefts his shotgun, aiming it squarely at the Shadow Lord. He doesn't flinch, he doesn't waver, and he fires. He fires and the large, black monstrosity doesn't flinch. For his part, neither does the driver. And though claws and hits and what-have-you fall into his skin, he seems nigh indestructable. Unwavering. Unfaltering.
The second slash should have cleaved the housewife in two, but for her part she seemed unbreakable. and when Sam looks at his sword again, he didn't see blood.
He saw mold.

At the front of the store, there is chanting. There is chanting and sickening, awful sounds. Those of the Unbroken Circle do not hear it, but Weasel's Gang does. It crawls over their skin, holds onto their hearrts and tongues and their connection to Gaia.
And they are unmoved. they are unfaltering. They are unwavering; they do not show fear. Weasel wouldn't stand by them if they did. It sets the tone for what's going to happen next. In the darkness, things stir. In the darkness, people move and flee and adjust, but it does little good.
The cyclist flees to the back, fearing the worst. One of the workers, Mike, tries to take a swing at something but only finds himself punching at air. The window breaks, glass crashes through and the body of a hispo wolf comes through.
A Fianna. Buried Hatchet. A creature of passion and duty and Honor- a creature without fear.
The manager tries to graple with him, tries to get a grip but no sooner does he attempt Soledad throws her spear. It makes him grunt, makes him all but stumble to the side and loose his balance. he is off course. Hatchet is free to move as he so pleases.

[Recycled] Caleb readies his bow and aims it clear at the housewife. He lets the arrow fly; the hit is solid. the hit is strong; it is strong enough that it passes through the fomor and hits the one behind her as well. The kid wears Darkensky's arrow square in the stomach. The theurge readies another shot, quick and makes another sound hit. Sound enough that the housewife seemed to all but fall apart. She collapsed to the ground, nothing more than a pile of slime and moldy filth in a human shell.
Lukas feels his rage building, looking square at the driver. He lets his fury loose, ripping the shotgun from his hands and holding him still. he bites, and the man's face all but comes off like some overly tender meat. He claws at him; he leaves nothing but a pile of wyrm-tainted meat in his wake. It was quick. The driver dies; sans senses. Sans everything.
The battle int he doorway wages fiercely. Sampson had managed to sneak through to the back. He scratches at the cyclist, who moves. He only barely takes the hit. Again, the Strider claws at him. The hit should ring true, but the wyrm made its minions of a stronger metal than he had anticipated. In his fury, he claws a third time, but only leaves a trickle of blood on the cyclist. It was a a good, solid effort. but, in the end, that fury could only take him so far. The cyclist that he was swinging at bites him, but does no good. Skinny legs remains unscathed.
Sam makes his way into the fray, passing through with great ease. he cleaves one fomor in half, leaving the kid cut into equal parts infront of him. He readies his sword again, but is stopped.
There is chanting.
There is chanting coming from that girl. his ears begin to bleed, all of them feel the disgusting wrongness about it, the lies, the twisting of what is right. It is the voice of the Wyrm. It hurts them as much as it hurts their very beings. Sam's ears begin to bleed; Lukas follows a same fate. He listened too closely to those words, and something about it sets him into a fit of rage. Something about it hits strong and deep, and for a moment Wyrmbreaker almost lost that precious control. Later, he would remember what he heard. But for now, he could just stomach the wrongness and the pain.
The girl keeps chanting, and Lukas, for his part, can not take it. He swings, he knows his duty is to Gaia and for some reason, though his hit is true, his claws do nothing. It should have torn through her flesh, made her nothing but a memory and victory to Gaia, she should be begging for mercy that will never come from a Shadow Lord.
But she doesn't.
She smiles. She keeps chanting.
Darkensky shoots another arrow, it does no good.

Mjollnir's heart makes his way through; he slashes at the girl, and that seems to be what stops her, what makes her falter. What did it was the fact htat he slit her throat, that blood poured forth and hands came up. the fomor faltered, shuddered, Sam tries again to make another hit, but this time? This time it does no good. She pulls her hands back, looking at the blood.
The girl looked at the pack.
She smiles. She laughs. She resumes chanting.
In an act of rage, Samuel Modine's sowrd finds Tom the cyclist's belly. He plunges it inward and the fomor groans. He doesn't move, he doesn't do anything but fall. Bleed. And fade to black.
Inside of the shop, there is a different battle waging. Weasel's Gang fights two oponents, and both seem unrelenting. Unwavering. Soledad sinks her claws into the manager quickly, adeptly. his ribs crack, but he feels nothing. She snaps her jaws at the manager; the sound is perfection. It crawls up his spine, and while her intention was to injur him, she did something completely different.
Muetra Fria reminded the fomor that he was on borrowed time.
The manager claws at Hatchet; the two seem to be locked in a stalemate. the manager claws, hatchet doesn't blink. The manager bites, and Hatched feels nothing. Hatchet snaps. And snaps. And snaps. and the manager feels nothing. He doesn't move or blink of break. Soledad grabs her spear, ripping it from his body and then turns to the other fomor.
He is an annoyance. He is a distraction.
Her spear rips through his body, tumors exploding and putrid pus daring to mar her fur; she feels nothing. The ahroun stabs the fomor, and takes care of this annoyance without so much as a second thought. the fomor falls to the ground, twitching and convulsing slightly before finally laying to rest.
The manager and Hatchet trade more blows. He leans in, he bites, jaws close and he is certain that he is going to get the better of the Fostern. He almsot feels victory, he almost feels triumph until he realizes that his jaws will not close. that his fangs will not sink in. The manager claws at him in anger, finding that this might be is best option. Hatchet takes something of a hit, but nothing worse than what he had felt before.
This pain was nothing. He was not afraid.

[Recycled] Muetra Fria held her spear and then jabbed it through the male's relatively thick hide. It barely pierced his organs, but it made for an easy target for her alpha. The manager gurgled, but he wasn't done yet. He clawed at Hatchet, but it did no good. He clawed again, but only found his claws stuck into the ground. He growled, and then they broke off.
Hatchet sunk his teeth into the manager's ribcage. Bones cracked. He tasted satisfaction.
It was not sweet.

The unbroken circle is having issues with the girl in the Tokyo shirt. Sampson claws, but the girl does not falter. He swipes three times and she still does not falter. Caleb aims an arrow true and shoots her, and the hit would have been enough to down a normal woman. But she was no normal woman at all.
That litany of dark deeds stops abruptly when her head is removed.
All they can hear is the fire at the front of the store. No battle. No death. No destruction. Just flames doing what they knew how to do-
Consume.
[Recycled] At a moment, it would make him sick. Genuinely ill-
Because, for a moment, he understood. For a brief and fleeting moment Wyrmbreaker heard the voice of the Wyrm and understood. They weren't that different; it was the fundamental differences that separated Gaian garou from the Black Spiral Dancers.
The Veil shall not be lifted.
Do not suffer thy people to tend they sickness.
The leader may be challenged at any time during peace.
The Leader shall not be challenged in time of war.
And, for a moment, he felt a pang of something. Something quiet and nagging and disgusting-
Wouldn't it be nice to be on the side of the war that was winning?
Lukas, at his core, felt unclean.

[Mjollnir's Heart] The girl's head falls off. It rolls to the feet of a Crinos form monster who prepares a deadly strike but stops short as it's target's body falls headless to it's knees and then prone. He's already activated his gift, the one that keeps him unafraid of the flames, keeps even the tips of his fur that would curl and burn away should it get too hot by proximity regrown as quickly as it might burn. He reaches down deeps finding the wolf in his without spending that last of his precious Rage and slowly shrinks down to that more manageable neanderthal form, his massive ten foot tall grey furred war skin slowly falling as he turns to something more human in shape if not bearing.
He has only one place to be. Vengeance complete, there's one last mission, a final favor for a girl he'd watched grow from a strange young street kid with the thickest southie accent this side of Good Will Hunting into an honest to Gaia woman. He doesn't care if that frozen expression on his fae may never change as he marches toward the front of the store with saline moisture rolling over one cheekbone to find the corner of his lips.
Now there's no one to wipe those anymore.

My Sister.
Latest of my friends to leave.
The fire rages like Malfeas itself and Sam doesn't turn back, doesn't even regard the other pack of two whose darkness has begun filtering out of the place like night slowly turning into day. He can smell her, he's had her scent on his nose for an hour almost at this point and it's not going anywhere now, even in this form with it's near human perceptions and it's by that and not the orange glow that touches her alabaster skin from the inferno around the that he finds and lifts Mrena Armstrong, White-Eyes, hero to her tribe, and the nation, and a boon to her friends with both arms. Cradling her as though she might only be sleeping and perhaps he'd just take her in to lie down awhile.
There's a silence about him as those giant eyes go glassier and he walks out toward the front and the shattered window through which the Fianna had made his entrance. He's not barking orders and calling for debriefings and cleanup tonight, no.
Mrena's gone.
Everything else can burn.
[Wyrmbreaker] And it's over.
There's blood everywhere. The Circle acted in a blur, claws and blades striking in harmony, arrows combing past the ears and hulking shoulders of the warriors with perfect, mindless precision. In the end the ground is littered with bodies ...
... and the Circle is hardly touched.
Superficially, anyway. There's a trickle of blood from each of the Shadow Lord's ears. There's a stain of gunpowder on his chest where he took a scatter of bullets. The flesh beneath is essentially untouched, though. He's strong, healthy; he holds himself like a dominant animal.
And yet--
And yet, there's something haunted in those pale eyes. He keeps staring at the girl long after she's ceased to be a girl and begun to be a ruined corpse. He stares while Mjollnir's Heart walks away; he stares until Darkensky puts a hand on his shoulder -- and then Wyrmbreaker jolts, as though awakened from some unpleasant dream.
He shakes his head like a dog. Then he turns -- balance low, movements hypnotic, a beast out of a nightmare, all black fur and hot muscle. He grabs the bodies of the truckers and drags them into Juiced!, throws them in the direction of the flames.
"Pile all the bodies in the fire," he says. "Leave my car where it is. Let's cross out of here before the firefighters come. We'll meet the Weasels on the other side."

[Buried Hatchet] All through the battle Hatchet has maintained a strange silence, even when lunging forward to take chunk after chunk out of the Manager's hide. He has not spoken to his Beta, he has not spoken at all. He does not growl or bark, he cannot yet bring himself to howl. He merely...rends. Like a bomb going off, like a hurricane coming in, he himself is so unstable and tumultuous that he cannot do anything but destroy. He acts like one frenzied, one lost. There is no comfort after this, there will be no satisfaction for him..sweet or otherwise.
The world around him burns and the Manager and the tumor-covered Assistant Manager, Mike, come between him and the body of the dead, stitched-up Bone Gnawer Ahroun on top of the counters. He sees Mrena, and he smells her, but she is to him very much like the flames: too bright, too strange, and currently somewhat unreal. The fire laps at him a few times, and he doesn't seem to feel it. He doesn't seem to feel anything. Even when the Manager claws through his chest Hatchet all but pushes into those claws, all but asks for his heart to be taken, before he lashes forward and takes the Manager's.
Soledad yanks her spear out of the Manager's body as it falls, and Hatchet -- his fur like rusting steel, his maw and scruff now drenched in blood and ichor -- pulls back, as though to forcibly keep himself from continuing to attack, from hurting the only thing he knows he still cares about. He shudders, and Rage pours through him as though this was not enough

to burn his fury out of him. He shifts to crinos and rises to his hind legs in one motion, stepping over fire, going to Ryan's body. Soledad, stowing her spear, notes the massive wound along her Alpha's side that he does not seem to feel -- he doesn't feel it, he can't feel it -- and stays quiet. They are, tonight, a silent pack. Soledad looks towards the back, past the fire, towards the near-silence left in the wake of whatever the Circle faced. They have no totem bond with them, no idea how many of them are alive or dead or wounded. They get one headcount when Sam comes out, lifts Mrena, and walks away from all of them. Soledad watches Hatchet.
Oscar does not pick Ryan up like a child. Or a sack of potatoes. He lifts him like one would move to hold another person, chest to chest, Ryan's head limp against his shoulder. He is not attacked again. He begins to slide down into glabro, his eyes going from blazing yellow to gold-ringed gray. He puts one overlarge hand on the back of Ryan's head and carries him out. Soledad's eyes flicker as she shifts down, seeing this. Ryan's arms and legs dangle. Ryan is not a man anymore. Ryan is body, and Oscar...
...Oscar is walking towards the night air, and she is following him, watching his back. He nods to her when they are out of the way of the flames, and she uses what's left of the glass to take them through the Gauntlet. Oscar holds what is left of Ryan to him as they cross, his arms tight, and his eyes dead.
In that infinite waiting space between worlds they can all experience in either a flicker or a long stretch, there is a ragged scream. It lasts: for a flicker. Or an eternity. But when Oscar emerges on the other side in the spirit world, following Soledad, he's silent again. If he ever, really, made a sound. If that wasn't just the penumbra picking up on something more spiritual than physical...but no less real.
When they are all together and accounted for on the other side, each one a survivor in the end, Oscar does not let go of Ryan. He can't. And from the look of him, one arm tight around Ryan's waist and the other holding him to his shoulder, he does not care. He does not care if they suspect, he does not care if they all fucking know. He does not care. Anymore.
[Wyrmbreaker] There's only one of the Circle waiting on the other side when Hatchet and his packmate appears, and it's Wyrmbreaker.
The rest aren't dead, though, and that should never even occur to the Weasels. Hatchet has seen Mjollnir's Hammer, and he looked more or less whole. He sees Wyrmbreaker now, enormous in his black warform, a pillar of rage in the umbra; unscathed. In the end, these two werewolves know little about each other, of each other, but any man with eyes can see that this Ahroun, at least, would never allow himself to remain untouched while his packmates died around him.
That's what he's always believed, anyway. An Ahroun is the tooth and claw of the pack, but more than that, an Ahroun is the shield of the pack. An echo of that was in what he said to Hatchet earlier: you know she'd die for your sake. In his mind, it's only right and proper that the Ahroun lays down her life for her packmates, and her Alpha.
Only; that isn't what happened at all. His Alpha is dead, and he stands without even a scar, without even a cut to show for it.
His head lifts when he scents the Weasels. He turns their way, his eyes flashing pale in the moonlight. His feetpaws shift in the umbral turf. He faces them, closes the distance, drops to a crouch, one handpaw to the ground for balance. The black Crinos is enormous, five and a half feet at the head even crouched like this; about as wide across the shoulders.
His wet nose moves as he scents the air in their direction. He looks at Hatchet, the way Hatchet holds his dead packmate, which is vastly different from the way Soledad mourns him. In the end he keeps his own counsel; doesn't offer condolences or sympathy.
What he offers instead: "I have Death Dust. It's a talen that will allow you to speak to the spirit of your packmate one final time before he passes back to Gaia's arms. If you want, I'll gladly share it with you."
A pause.
"If you can't bear it, no one will shame you for it."

[Buried Hatchet] Everything they had to say to each other, they said in one way or another the last time they met. Lukas doesn't know how that conversation went or what it devolved to, but certain things echo in Hatchet's mind as he is offered the chance to speak to Ryan one last time.
You know we can't keep this up forever.
I know. I know we can't.
I wanna be with you. An' I ain't never wanted to be with nobody before.
You've changed my fucking life, how could I be happier without you?
He is being offered something that mortals ache for, sometimes for their entire lives. The chance to say what wasn't said, to be with them one last time, to hear their voice, to have them for another minute, another moment, whatever they can get from the cold and unconcerned universe. He looks at Lukas with eyes flat from lack of Rage, lack of Will, lack of spirit, lack of...anything human, anything vibrant, anything recognizable. To look at him now he's never laughed and he might never again, but there is a hint of the man that is -- on occasion -- called 'wise' or 'honorable'.
He is doing what he does surprisingly well. He listens. And he considers this, and then his eyes close. His arm around Ryan's torso tightens, muscles quivering for a moment. Finally he shakes his head, fighting an urge to bury it in Ryan's shoulder, and his eyes slide open once more.
"Thank you," is all he says. It's all he can say. He looks at Soledad; Soledad looks at him. They have a second or two of communication, silent and maybe not even understanding, and then she nods.
They wait for the rest of the Circle to join them, but when all are accounted for somehow, Hatchet turns to go. He does not want to walk alone. He never has. But he will if he has to.
