another gathering of storms.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] Like the last one -- only few, if any, of the current Shadow Lords of the city were actually present at the last one of these gatherings -- this is a relatively casual affair. They don't gather on some stormy peak. They don't gather at the spire of the Sears Tower, as close to their patron god as they can get.

It's just a hotel room -- albeit a nice one, a sprawling suite on one of the upper floors of Trump Towers, overlooking city and lake. The door is closed but unlocked. The bedrooms and bathroom look untouched. Catered food of a distinctly eastern european bent is set out on the long dining table. The curtains are opened, and the view is stunning.

Wyrmbreaker stands near the door, greeting each tribesman and kin as they enter. He's rather casual tonight -- a soft, thin pullover in charcoal, grey slacks. Oddly, he looks sleeker in more formal clothing than this; in coats and shirts and vests that downplay the breadth of his shoulders, the broadness of his back. In these clothes, he looks imposing, a core of dark heat centering the room.

"Stefan. Glad you could make it. Daoi. Welcome." When it comes Carter's turn to enter, Lukas pauses, cocks his head, matches the man against some inner description. Then he holds out his hand. "The elusive Carter Roth, I presume."

[Stefan Knezevic] Stefan is dressed in his usual affair...but then, his usual affair is one of formality. No biker jacket tonight--he's close enough to his usual home (as opposed to his temporary one) that he had no need to ride over. He wears a collarless navy shirt, black slacks, matching shoes. His hair is pulled back into a tiny ponytail, his face clean-shaven. When he approaches, he smiles and gives Lukas a deferential inclination of his head.

"Good evening, Rhya. A pleasure to see you, as always." He nods and slips in, opening the door and holding it if Daoi and Carter are right behind him; closing it if not.

[Daoi Gladecu] *She winks privetly to Carter pleased to see him. She limps in with a nod to Lukas. And then looks back supprised at the offered hand to Mr. Roth. This won't go well. She takes a breath and moves on her cane digging into the carpet. She was dressed in black slacks a blouse with her black pea coat over it. Her dark hair was cut short and was neatly styled. In one gloved black hand was a folder of papers. In the other her ebony cane with the gold wolf's head with it's duel tounges. She looks for a place to sit first.*

[Carter Roth] Carter arrives a moment or two after both Stefan and Daoi his heavy first knocking heavily upon the suite's door before he opens it himself. The man is not dressed in anything that even comes close to resembling formal attire, a pair of combat boots upon his feet go quite well with the cargo fatigues upon his legs. He wears a dark green tank upon his torso, which is covered by an old hip length leather jacket, the kind that was made of far to many patches, indicating inferior quality, but no less loved.

He had come expecting one thing, and to his surprise, or concern, he had recieved another entirely. Wyrmbreaker was offering him a hand, the chance to shake with the man who radiated barely controlled rage out into the room, waves that made Carters skin tingle uncomfortably and he just barely kept a grimace off his face.

He does not take the man's hand. He simply nods at him, not in deference like Stefan, simply as acknowledgement as he meets the man's gaze. "And your Wyrmbreaker." He says calmly sizing the man up, it was the least rude he could manage.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] "I am."

Wyrmbreaker's eyebrow quirks at the refusal to shake hands. He folds his own behind his back, clasped at the wrist by the other hand. There's something of the old world in Lukas's manners, at least when he's like this: formal, the Alpha of the Tribe. It comes from his mentor. It comes from his father.

"We should talk in a bit," he adds, then turns back to the small gathering.

"Make yourselves at home," he says. "I took the liberty of ordering from a Polish caterer just outside River North; they're meant to be quite good. We also have the room until the morning, in case any of you," a wry smile, "get too drunk to drive.

"I'm hoping a few more show up tonight, but it's a casual affair. I have no real agenda tonight, and this is not so much a conference as a mixer. I do want to speak about the kinhunter in a little while, but so far as the law of the tribe goes, I've said what I needed to through my stormcrow. I simply wanted to make myself available in case any of you had questions, and give you a chance to meet each other. We believe in strength, dominance and hierarchy -- but this does not negate that we are family, in the end."

A pause. Then he gestures to the table with an open hand.

"So. Help yourselves to the food and the wine. And again, welcome, my tribesmen."

[Daoi Gladecu] *Daoi finds the coat closet and hangs up her coat before finding herself a chair to ease down into and set her file on the side table. She smooths herself out quietly and triest to catch her breath. Said shortness she had been trying to hide. She watches people. So far it was only the few she had already met. mmmm.*

[Carter Roth] "I just bet." Is Carters reply as the man turns to address the other, its at that point that Carter moves to find a defensible position over by the catered food. [Hey its also smart to stake out a spot where you wont go hungry.] He listens to Wyrmbreaker as he talks of family, of tribe and the kin has to do his best to swallow his discomfort, for now at least.

His gaze moves about and meets the only other kin in the room, the Doc and he nods in return to her at last. Perhaps hoping that she will move to him and 'circle the wagons' so to speak, this was after all...hostile territory. But instead the doctor took her seat elsewhere, and the man was left on his own.

[Stefan Knezevic] He takes a spot off to the side, in a fairly unobtrusive spot. A faint but warm smile hits his face when he sees Daoi, and he nods to her. "Pleasure to see you again, Doctor."

When Carter walks in, he also gets the same smile and nod. Carter may not have had the best experiences with the Theurge, but Stefan does not seem upset, hostile or even amused over it. He merely gives the kin his greeting, and then looks to Lukas as he speaks. He listens to the Tribal Elder, hands behind his back, and nods in acknowledgment. When Lukas is done, he approaches.

"I know that you said this is more casual, but I do have something that we should discuss...specifically, Doctor Gladecu's home. She has offered it as a safe haven as you said, but there is a problem; it is relatively small and there is currently only enough bedding for two kinfollk, plus one more. I could certainly forego an official bed while I am staying there, I have no issue with that...but even then, that is only three. It is far from the most ideal situation for a safehouse, by a long shot."

[Carter Roth] Carter takes the quiet opportunity to acquire a few snacks, using a plate even, his parents would be so proud, not that he would care. And he really can't argue that it was tasty. It was hard not to hear the conversation being had between the two Garou only meter's away and Carter briefly flicked his gaze to the Doc before paying close attention to what was being said.

What was said here could set the tone for the rest of the evening after all, Carter hoped it wouldn't be the tone of blood and screams.

[Daoi Gladecu] Mr. Knezevic

*She nods to him as he greets her and smiles. Finally when she was rested. She did indeed limp over to Carter to 'circle the wagons' so to speak*

Are any of the drinks good?

*she asks him*

[Carter Roth] Carter relaxed a little as the Doc joins him by the table and he looks ever so briefly at the drinks arrayed nearby. "I don't know, so far the food seems good." He said quietly as he watched. "Who wants to try the drinks first?" He asks "I'll rock paper scissor you for it."

He says it like its a joke, but he does bring a fist up, just incase the doctor feels like chancing it anyways, or maybe just for the fun of doing it. His gaze however, never falls from Stefan and Lukas, this was after all, why he had shown up in the first place.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] "Maybe safehouse was the wrong term." What passes for an announcement is over. Daoi and Carter gravitate together -- or perhaps it's more huddle together -- Lukas drifts toward his fellow Trueborn. "Since we have the Brotherhood, where I myself keep a room, there seems to be no reason for a safehouse specific to our tribe. I don't intend to declare war on the other tribes anytime soon, after all.

"Dr. Gladecu simply mentioned she had space for two more at her place, where a tribesmate could rest his or her head in case of emergency. Since there's talk of a kinhunter around, I thought it was reasonable to crowd the otherwise unguarded kin there and set a watch over them until the danger passes.

"I do take your meaning, though. I've never been to Dr. Gladecu's home myself. If it's genuinely too small for four or five people to share, even on a temporary basis, I'll look into finding a larger place."

[Daoi Gladecu] *Daoi looks over to Lukas*

I apologize Wyrmbreaker-rhya but it is a three bedroom cottage. Currently Mr. Roth is occupieing one of the rooms leaving one room open.

*She leans quickly to Carter*

Cant you get me something non alcholic

*Then looks back at the garou*

Mr. Roth has passed his background check and will be joining me in my lab soon. His skills will be greatly appieated as well as his knowledge in defenses.

[Carter Roth] Carter listens in, and he isnt a particular fan of what he hears. But he moves over to gather up a non alcoholic drink for the Doc, a sniff to the punch, or whatever it is to ensure it was infact non alcoholic.

He returned two glasses in hand and gave one over to the doctor. He was surprised at himself, he had bit his tongue for sometime now. "Doc...is there something wrong with me?" He asks quietly with a sidelong glance at her. "I haven't gotten myself killed yet."

[Stefan Knezevic] A little smile. "My apologies. That is more or less what I meant as safehouse as well. Simply a temporary place to make sure the, as you say, unguarded kinfolk are together, so essentially the same thing."

He looks at Doai and then nods, acknowledging the volunteered information, and looks back. "I am not without my own resources. While I am not letting my hold on my suite at the hotel I am staying in lapse while staying at the cottage, I would be happy to find an adequate location that I can rent on a short-term basis for the unguarded kin and I to move into."

[Daoi Gladecu] *she leans to listen to Carter and shakes her head*

No...there is absolutly nothing wrong with you. You are perfectly healthy...though you might want some more vitiment B in your diet.

*She chuckles softly at him*

Thank you for the punch.

*She sips it*

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] "That's very generous," Lukas replies, "but not necessary. I'll rent an apartment for a month or two if we really can't cram everyone into Daoi's cottage. But she herself wanted to stay at home if at all possible, which I don't blame her for -- and it's too much manpower commitment to hold down two safehouses.

"Daoi, would it be at all possible to move in two more cots? You could have your own room. Stefan and Simon could share one, as I doubt they're both there all the time, and Carter and Neda could share the other spare room. It'll be a temporary arrangement, a month or two at most."

[Carter Roth] "No problem Doc." Carter had even had a smile on his lips as he talked to Daoi, speaking on less serious things. But the entire time he still listens, still pays attention, when Stefan and then Lukas continue to speak on cramming them all in his face darkens and he shakes his head.

"Two days would be too long." He says as he meets Lukas' gaze. "We aren't prisoners, and you won't corral us."

[Stefan Knezevic] He gives a little nod to Lukas, acceding to the higher-ranking Lord on plans. He looks over to Daoi when Lukas asks, and then arches an eyebrow when Carter spouts off. No more than that; this is not his place to intervene, with the Ahroun here. He just watches Carter for a moment, head cocked.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] Lukas doesn't so much as look at Carter; his attention remains on Daoi, waiting.

[Daoi Gladecu] *She considers Lukas' request, and then her eyes lean to look at Carter. She is now placed between a rock and a hard place. She takes a breath and looks at Lukas*

This is very difficult. I have an obligation. I have agreed to take Mr. Roth into my home, but I understand he is not comportable being watched over by True Borns. Also some of my investigative experiments react badly when Rage is around too long.

*She leans on her cane and sets her cup down*

At the same time to contantly be watched will raise tempers and attitudes, but if the kinfolk in this area use the buddy system and check in often with a true born, our protection has been upped without curb tailing their freedom and sense of self worth.

*she looks down at her toes*

and evne though I feel Dr. Stevic is an untrustwrothy person, I will even allow her in my home if it makes checking in any easier. That way the kin are in one place.

[Carter Roth] Carter's eyes had been fixed on Lukas for the duration, even if the man had decided Carter was below his notice. But as the Doctor spoke, Carters gaze was slowly torn away and he looked at her sidelong, his gaze flickered across her face, as if he was attempting to discern something.

Eitherway something didn't sit comfortably with the kin and he raised his glass to his lips and took a drink, his eyes flickering over to the alcoholic drinks available.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] Lukas's eyes are intense on Daoi, his head cocked faintly as he sifts through all she's said.

"So," he replies, "what I'm hearing is that you're fine with Carter, Neda and yourself staying in your cottage. And you're fine with Stefan and Simon watching over you. Which makes me think this matter is settled.

"I'll have some beds moved in. In a month or so, if you no longer want them, I'll move them back out. Donate them to the Brotherhood or something. If things get too cramped, let me know and I'll rent you all an apartment until this blows over."

A beat. Then Lukas draws a breath, lets it out.

"Let me speak plainly. For some reason, the kin in this room have decided that they're being oppressed and must join forces to resist the Man. I don't know where you got that idea from. It's absolutely absurd.

"I'm not herding kin around like cattle. I'm not locking anyone up. I'm doing my duty to my tribe, which is to keep you safe. And the best way to do that is to keep you together, and ask my trueborn tribesmen to check in on you. Spend the night occasionally.

"They're not your gaolers. Nor am I. You're free to come and go as you wish. But I want your Trueborn cousins to be there, accessible, in case you're in danger and I'm not close enough to help.

"Now, as for you, Carter. I meant to say this to be privately, but since you so publically threw my hospitality in my face, I'll simply respond in like.

"From the moment I contacted you, you've been nothing but hostile and uncooperative. I don't know what's in your past; I don't know why it's twisted you so. I know some of our tribe are monstrous. I know I am not like them. I know I can't make you believe that; not if you won't try. And frankly, I don't care enough to lose sleep over any of this.

"You could be an asset to us. You could have a role in this war. Based on that potential, I've asked my potential packmate, Nathalie, to talk to you. To try to get through to you. Because some have spoken well of your combat training, your ability to heal. Most have simply commented on what an ass you are.

"But if you truly are so utterly disillusioned that you think of an attempt to protect as an attempt to control, then you're obviously not going to help us in the war. Which means you are, despite all your gifts, not an asset to the tribe. Which means I could care less if you get snatched up by some Wyrm critter and turned into tainted plant food.

"So. If you absolutely can't stand the idea of having a Garou swing by once a day to make sure you haven't died screaming, you're free to move anywhere you like. And I'll put Nathalie on more important projects than trying to cure you of your angst.

"On the other hand, if you're willing to put that chip on your shoulder down for one moment and take a leap of faith, then stay with Daoi. Be safe. And maybe somewhere along the way we can learn something like mutual respect."

[Stefan Knezevic] He remains silent and more or less unmoving as the discussion concludes and then Lukas addresses Carter. If there is satisfaction or dissatisfaction at what he hears, it is kept from his expression and body language. He merely watches Lukas, listening quietly. Once the Ahroun is done, he looks back toward the kin, curious as to Carter's response.

[Daoi Gladecu] I apologize, I've had very little contact with the true born of this city and I am unused to some of the ways they do protect their family, also much of the information that has been passed down to me has been second hand or not as clear as I have thought.

*The knuckles around her cane were white but she managed to stay still and show little else. Her eyes flicker to Carter. She had a deep forboding feeling*

[Carter Roth] Carters own fists clench and unclench as his jaw tightens and locks into place. The blue green of his eyes bore back into Wyrmbreakers gaze. It looks like he might get violent, it looks like he might seriously draw down on the man, pull a gun, or maybe worse, after all, no one bothered to check the man as he came through the door.

But after a moment something clicked over and the man started to laugh, it was not a pleasant laugh, or one of friendship, it was a laugh of man who believed he had seen through something. "Good try Wyrmbreaker, good try." He says with a smirk. "You almost made me think about leaving, about letting all the kin in this city just continue their shackled existence, because for many that is the case."

He said as his face grew darker. "Thats made obvious when one of them is chocked and slashed across the face by her own 'tribe' for wanting a little freedom." His face lightened again and he looked ever so briefly at Stefan before his gaze returned to Lukas. "I'm not going anywhere."

[Stefan Knezevic] His brow furrows, his own expression darkening just slightly. He says nothing, though he seems to have the allegation and then the look his way as an insinuation that he did something to that effect. He's been accused of psychotic behavior by someone else in the city, though against a spirit and not a kinfolk, so the assumption may make some sense. Either way, he doesn't seem particularly pleased.

He does, however, hold his tongue. There is no use in spouting angry words of denial, after all.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] "Don't force me to play the tyrant, Carter." If anything, Wyrmbreaker's voice softens. "Stay with us or go alone, but actively twisting your brethren against their own is not acceptable.

"Now, if you have an actual issue to raise, speak plainly."

[Daoi Gladecu] *she pick up her drink and sips from it. Finally and sits, and takes two pills out of her pocket and takes them with her punch.*

[Carter Roth] "Play the Tyrant and prove everything I've ever said right Wyrmbreaker." He counters as he stands there now, slowly crossing his arms before him. He really had no intention of going anywhere.

"First off fine, you want to send your....tribesmen to check on, then they can knock see were inside, and leave unless invited in, its a sanctuary for kin, if not for that, because your rage will disrupt the Doctors research as shes clearly stated, which is obviously for the good of the nation, so I think you can agree to that." He paused for a moment before continuing.
"Second Neda was attacked by the woman Nathalie for saying that she would not tell her every place she would be, she choked her, and slashed her face." He says looking between the trueborn. "Obviously thats a load of bullshit, if I did that I'd be shackled and tried...what about her?"

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] "No," just as softly. "I'll decide how Stefan and Simon check in. And since they're doing you all the favor of keeping you alive, they won't be creeping about like servants.

"As for Nathalie, I've dealt with that already. Her punishment, ironically enough, is to try to make you see sense without beating you to a pulp."

[Stefan Knezevic] He relaxes, just slightly, when it is mentioned that it was someone other than him. Unfounded charges would be the last thing he needed. He looks between the two, finding the whole thing very intriguing.

[Carter Roth] Carter nods. "Yeah good choice, send the one who beats a kin for wanting freedom after the one who talks about nothing else." He says with a cant of his head to the side. He simply lets the implications speak for themselves.

"And I guarantee if she tries, I won't just take it like Neda did...by the way."

He then looks over at Daoi seeing her sitting there, staying out of it mostly and he looks back to Lukas. "Did I say creeping about? I said they would knock, like regular friends and people, say hi, check on us and then go about their merry way. Did you hear her? She is doing important research for THIS nation, that will affect your tribe and every other one that exists. And your going to say no to me on protecting that research from the rage you put out cause I'm not your best buddy?" He shakes his head.

[Daoi Gladecu] *her brows raise in an 'oh dear' part for Nathalie. She liked Carter when he was away from the true borns. But he could just be as struborn as she was when it came to her research...she looked up when he started to protect her research. Bless his heart. There was accually a kind smile for him on that*

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] Lukas's eyes narrow. He takes a step toward Carter.

"What's that supposed to mean -- you won't just take it?"

[Carter Roth] "I mean I will fight back, I don't just sit back and accept a beating, I beat the fucker back." He says as he stands his ground. Waiting for what he was certain was coming. "Go on then, come at me if thats what your itching to do, you'll only make me right." He says as he his hands unfold from his chest, falling to his side as he stands ready, obviously unafraid of death.

[Neda Stevic] (Sorry!!! Took WAY longer than I'd planned!)

She hasn't bothered to change out of scrubs, already very late for the meeting. It doesn't occur to her that something about her may be....offputting.

She knocks at the door before trying the handle, pushing it open just enough to poke her head in.

[Stefan Knezevic] He watches Lukas step forward, and Carter hold his ground. He shakes his head slightly and moves toward the dining table. He pours himself a drink, keeping his attention toward the Garou and kinsman facing off. His expression remains calm, albeit quite curious. He looks forward to seeing how this plays out.

His drink procured, he looks over at Doai, nodding slightly, and when Neda knocks and peeks in he looks her way and smiles in greeting.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] Lukas is an arm's reach away from Stefan when he stops. His hands are still laced loosely at the small of his back. Eyes ice cold, critical and remote, he studies the kinsman before him. Face, hands, form. Back to his eyes.

"I'm not itching to fight you," he says. "There is no honor in that. If I raise my hand to you, Carter, it's only because you've left me no choice. You're the only one here who wants to provoke violence. I don't know what made you this way, but I am sorry for you."

On that note he turns his back, moving back toward the buffet laid out on the table.

"Come on, Carter. Have a seat. Lay down your issues and share a meal with your tribe.

"Daoi -- if your research is so very delicate that it cannot withstand even the slightest Rage, then we'll go ahead with the plan of moving all the kin who are interested in protect to a temporary apartment. Perhaps that's be best, after all. More room for all involved, and Stefan won't have to sleep on a couch if it's too late for him to go home.

"Neda." Lukas smiles as the door opens, waving her into the hotel suite. She can't possibly be unaware of the tension in the room, but it seems to roll right off the Ahroun. "Thanks for coming."

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] [all the kin who are interested in protection*!]

[Neda Stevic] Perfect timing, Neda.

She offers a slightly sheepish smile as she comes in, closing the door behind her. "My apologies, Rhya. I was detained."

By something rotten, from the smell of her.

[Daoi Gladecu] Wyrmbreaker-Rhya. My experiments can stand about 6 to 8 hours of rage durning a day at most. I would be happy to have them over for lunch or the like to discuss what the kinfolk are doing and our ware about and if we have seen anything....

*she stops for a moment and looks down and up then looks at Stefan*

I remember hearing something about kin fetches....I'm afraid I don't know much about them...Perhaps you can explaine them to me?

[Carter Roth] There are no teeth, nor claws, no howl of anger or rage that would be the prelude to a bloody death, Carter remains there, standing, waiting, and when it doesn't come he grits his teeth and narrows his eyes his own fists balling, it was like he had wanted it, like his body had craved it, and now that it wasn't happening he had his own problems to deal with.

The man smirked, and it was not a pleasant look before he grabbed up his glass and moved away, towards the couches.

[Neda Stevic] She just listens as she makes herself a drink, finally returning Stefan's nod and keeping half an eye on Lukas as ice and alcohol are added to the glass.

Once she has a refreshment, she moves in the general direction of Carter.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] "I seriously doubt," Lukas replies, wry, "that either Stefan or Simon have the time to spend more than six to eight hours a day at your place."

The truth is, Lukas was prepared -- absolutely, coldly prepared -- for Carter to open his mouth again and spout off. When the man rather miraculously keeps quiet, moves to a couch, the Shadow Lord looks after him for a moment.

Then he intercepts Neda. "What's that smell?"

[Neda Stevic] "What sme-" She stops midstep, sniffing first the air, then herself.

Oh....

[Stefan Knezevic] He looks at Daoi and smiles a bit, shaking his head.

"I am afraid that a Kin-Fetch would not be helpful in this case. A Kin-Fetch is a specific spirit type, usually but not always bound into a Fetish or Talen, that notifies of an impending First Change. The term kin means family in this case, as it retrieves the nearest Garou in the area--fetching them--to notify them that such is about to occur. "

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] It's not exactly courteous, but Lukas leans a little closer and sniffs. Grimaces a little. "I'm sorry," he apologizes -- and then abruptly laughs, snapping the tension in his immediate vicinity. "That was rude of me. But are you a coroner, by any chance?"

[Daoi Gladecu] ahhh. mmmm

*she says taking in Stefan's words*

Is there a way to leave a spirit in the house hold to look after kin or no?

*she asked curiously*

Please forgive me, I'm trying to think of what may be easiest for the true borns but I know very little of it.

[Neda Stevic] See, normally, this is where Neda launches into a very long, drawn out, and put upon explanation on how a coroner differs from a forensics pathologist, beginning with the basics and ending with how she's a GODDAMNED DOCTOR.

That's normal though. This situation, with the elder of her tribe sniffing at her, is not normal.

"Yes, Rhya. I apologize. I hadn't realized that I was carrying the smell with me. I can go back and change, if you would prefer?"

[Carter Roth] It was probably for the best that Neda did not reach Carter, the man looks angry enough to break something, and his position alone on the couches for the time being, is probably all for the better.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] "I don't mind," Lukas lies politely, and then stops, laughing under his breath. "Well, actually, if I'm being completely honest -- it is a little overpowering. There's a shower through that way though."

[Stefan Knezevic] "It is conceivable." He considers. "I may be able to enter into an agreement with a spirit to watch over the house and notify me if something occurs. Unfortunately, you would obviously be unable to use a talen. I will see what I can come up with."

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] [BTW, this was my first setup post so you know where you are -- ]

Like the last one -- only few, if any, of the current Shadow Lords of the city were actually present at the last one of these gatherings -- this is a relatively casual affair.

"The elusive Carter Roth, I presume."
to Neda Stevic

[Neda Stevic] If she had her fondest wish.... her very heart's desire above all else.... it would be that she died, right now, and was spared the embarrassment of this moment.

"Yes, Rhya. Thank you."

She moves for the shower, glancing to Carter quickly.

[Neda Stevic] (You're the best! Thanks)
to Lukas Wyrmbreaker

[Carter Roth] Carter does not even spare a glance to Neda, his eyes fixed on the skyline beyond the glass of the unit. His eyes never leaving it, but that doesn't mean hes not listening.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] While Neda ducks off to shower -- looking utterly mortified, no pun intended -- Lukas goes to the table at last. No one else seems to have done much more than pick at the food, but the Ahroun isn't shy about it. The fare is hearty and wholesome, more traditional than haute cuisine. He heaps stuffed cabbage, roast meat and pierogis onto his plate, then wanders back to Daoi and Stefan.

Carter, unsurprisingly, is left to stew on his own for the moment. Better for all involved that way.

"I could actually commit a stormcrow to your home," Lukas says, rejoining the conversation. "Ironically," mouth twisting, "I thought you'd probably object at the 24/7 invasion of your privacy. They do tend to snoop where they shouldn't. Bedrooms. Closets. Medicine cabinets. Showers. It is an option, though. They're smart and they're reasonably loyal, so long as they're convinced of your strength."

[Daoi Gladecu] *she looks at Lukas and chuckles*

For some reason...I don't mind animals as much as I do those with a human mind. As long as the crow didn't disterb my lab, I would have very little to be upset about. And I think it would put others at ease.

*she nods*

An animal can't tell you...mmm...your clothing is inapproiate or ask odd questins. I would guess that they would be there to do their purpose and little else. They are less judgmental.

[Stefan Knezevic] "A stormcrow is a spirit, Doctor," he says mildly as he takes a sip of his drink. Now that Lukas has gotten food, Stefan goes over to do so as well. Greatest in share and all...

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] "If you truly don't mind, I'll send a stormcrow over tonight as a stopgap. When Stefan gets his own spirit deals brokered, I'll let him take over." Lukas pauses to pop a pierogi in his mouth before advising, "Just don't be surprised if your jewelry goes missing. Or your lingerie."

[Daoi Gladecu] No need to worry, I don't have either.

*She sips her drink then stops*

I'm sorry Mr. Knezevic...I didn't mean to offend. I honestly didn't know. If you will excuse me I need to refill my drink.

*She stands up and takes her cane to help her do so. Carefully she head over to the drinks and the bar. She stops and starts mixing an alcholic drink. She stops and limps over to Carter and hands him the drink*

Come speak with us. They will leave us alone with a spirit for a bit, until they can get a...um..household spirit. They are making the effort to try. Come on...there is good food and drink. Take advantage of it.

*she winks at him before moving to go refill her punch glass. She wobbles over and sets it down by her chair before going back and getting some food. She come back and sits puts out a cane and drags a char next to her and pats it for Carter*

[Carter Roth] Carter had taken some time, let the adrenaline course through his body and slowly get to the point where it no longer rode him. He was cool, or at least cooling. He listened of course, listened to Daoi as she spoke with both the garou and he blinked away a rather nasty thought before turn rising from the couch and moved to refill his glass.

[Neda Stevic] After scrubbing herself down until her skin is red and washing her hair three times (It tends to cling to hair) she dries off and wraps herself in one of the room's robes.

Now she's starving and can't eat, she's already made a bad impression by being late, and she was SNIFFED. But that's not enough to ruin Neda's evening. On top of all of it, she has to go back out there in front of her boyfriend with wet hair and melted makeup.

The bathroom door opens, and she tries to slip out as unobtrusively as possible.

[Carter Roth] "They will not listen to me, no matter the sense I make." He says quietly to her, but then he moves with her anyways.

He seems to listen to the Doctor, and sits down next to her, but still no more food is taken, not a single bit, only the drink at this point. He sits there, a brief look at the Doc with an unknowable thought in his head before he looks at the others.

[Stefan Knezevic] "No offense." He smiles at Daoi. "Merely elucidation." He nods as she heads off to Carter, and then pauses to welcome Neda back into the room with a nod before he turns his attention back to Lukas.

"How are matters going, current business discussed tonight aside?"

[Daoi Gladecu] They will, just...this is supposed to be a hi howdy...

*She gives him her half smile*

Just relax...and look at them as people

*she whiispers*

[Neda Stevic] She already didn't like Daoi. This doesn't help. Jaw set, she leans against the doorjam and looks the room over while desperately trying to teleport a drink her way.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] "On the whole, not badly. There are some threats to the city, but then, there always are. Simon's overseeing some kin who are looking into suspicious mob land acquisitions. You should ask him about it if he comes. Meanwhile some Ragabash are looking into this business of disappearing kin, and I've asked Joey to lead others up into the Hivelands for a recon. We've left them alone too long. The spirit captain of the Church knights -- the Church being our one and only stronghold in the Hivelands to date -- has been reporting heavier losses again lately. We'll have to expand our operations there if we're to keep our hold.

"But that's business on the grand scale. I remember," he sets his plate down to pour himself a glass of wine, then holds it up with an eyebrow quirked in offering, "you mentioned you were being recruited by Defiance. Are you running with them now?"

[Stefan Knezevic] "Not as of yet." He shakes his head, frowning just a little. "There were some complications...a few potential incompatibility issues that we have not yet had a chance to talk over. The offer is still pending for now, though if it continues in stasis for much longer I will begin looking elsewhere."

[Daoi Gladecu] *She leans over and whispers to Carter*

Why don't you go and help Neda out, she looks alone.

*She nods and motions to Neda*

[Carter Roth] Carter simply shakes his head at her words. "Easier said then done." He whispered back as his eyes travelled between Stefan and Lukas, before coming back to the Doc.

"I have no intention of sharing my history with them." He says quietly once more before he looks about. It dawns on him slowly, the futility of being here, of trying to converse with men he had been ready to fight, and probably die at the hands of. "I think thats it for me." He says as he moves to stand, even as Daoi speaks of helping Neda. He starts to walk towards the door, but makes a detour towards the woman who waited in the wings.

"Go on, sit down and eat, enjoy the company." He says to her.

[Neda Stevic] Her eyes track Carter as he moves, and she obviously feels uncomfortable when he gets near her.

"I'll see you later?"

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] If Stefan indicates he'll partake of wine, Lukas fills his glass. Otherwise, the bottle goes back on the table, behind the roast...

lamb. Of course. Lukas has an inordinate fondness for lamb. Maybe he just likes the irony of it: big bad wolves, innocent little muttons.

"They might need your help now more than ever," Lukas says, his tone lowering a notch. "Drawn in Blood met a pretty bad end a few nights ago. No one knows exactly what happened yet, but the Wyrm got its claws in him and turned him into a ... shambler, I think the Ritesmistress called it. A zombie, you might say.

"Hunter had to put him down. It rattled him badly. Not just having to kill his brother's shell, and not even having to kill it again and again because it wouldn't stay dead, but -- losing him that way in the first place, when he was John's alpha. Last I heard Joey was going to try to talk to him, but he was messed up. That pack's balanced on a knife's edge.

"Which means, of course, most up-and-coming Shadow Lords would avoid it like the plague. But they are -- or were -- one of our stronger warpacks, and we don't have that many. If you can help them stay together, it'll be worth more in the long run than some momentary 'career advancement'."

[Simon Zahradnik] [Where is this meeting transpiring? A dark alley in seediest part of town?]

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] [lemme PM you my first post!]

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] [this!]

Like the last one -- only few, if any, of the current Shadow Lords of the city were actually present at the last one of these gatherings -- this is a relatively casual affair.

"The elusive Carter Roth, I presume."
to Simon Zahradnik

[Carter Roth] "No, not tonight." He says in response. "I'm going somewhere else." He said as he patted her on the shoulder. "Go on, enjoy this....how do you do." He said with something of a grimace before he turned once more towards the door and stepped towards the exit.

[Stefan Knezevic] "Ahh." He doesn't seem especially surprised by the news of John's death, though he doesn't seem pleased, either. "I will certainly consider it. It is a matter of them deciding upon me rather than the reverse, but I shall certainly speak with them again."

[Daoi Gladecu] mmm... I do have something for the both of you...

*she says turning back to the two garou. She takes a folder from the table next to her*

Miss Burke gave me blood to sample from someone she stabed. This are the files from the research on it. With out accually having the body to look over the samples matches best to a tainted garou. It may be a BSD.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] Lukas glances up as Carter leaves. No great surprise there. He doesn't call out to the kin; doesn't bid him to stay, nor goodnight.

He nods at Carter if the man looks his way. Otherwise, he simply watches him go.

[Neda Stevic] Once Carter moves away, her eyes narrow. She watches him until after he's left, then moves to pour another drink.

[Simon Zahradnik] Simon woulda preferred a stormy peak! Lightning crackling and the imminent threat of doom surrounding them but he was big on the whole danger thing. He loved it, he thrived off it! Still he was here and his arrival was marked with a knock though he finds himself face to face with Carter. The full moon smiles a little in greeting to the man, who he's never met, and a hand was offered out."Simon... Is this the place?"He asks, standing in dark jeans and a hoodie with a bandanna drawn around his neck the young man looked like your average run of the mill street thug. Angry, and aggressive... Kinda good looking, but mostly he looked like the kinda guy who liked to kick puppies for fun.

[Carter Roth] Carter isn't the sort to look back, isn't the sort hope for calls to stay, or even want them. He pulls open the door to the hotel suite, and is stuck face to face with yet another of Thunders blood and he snorts as the man asks if this is the place.

"Yeah, go on in, have some fun." He says, but he doesn't take the man's hand. Instead he steps around him, and moves on down the hallway, away from all of it.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] Lukas nods to Stefan, then turns as Daoi approaches.

"That's right, I remember that. The stabbing was somehow linked to the kin kidnappings, wasn't it? So we've got their blood, we have a bucket of taint sitting under heavy guard in the Caern, and now we have a hint as to who's behind it. One of whos, anyway."

There's a brief pause as Lukas watches Simon and Carter come face to face. If there was one Garou Lukas was fairly certain might erupt into uncontrolled violence under Carter's provocation, Simon might be it. Nothing comes of it, though, and he looks back at Daoi.

"Thanks for your work. Send me the results -- I'll pass it on to Joey and ask her to find me a Ragabash who can track this up to the next link in the chain.

"Simon," he holds out his hand to clasp the young Ahroun's, "glad you made it. There's food and drink on the table. Have you met everyone here? This is Simon, the Wyrmfoe of the Sept, and an Ahroun out of Dark Sky."

[Daoi Gladecu] These are the results

*She chuckles and hands him the file*

I have a copy at home

[Stefan Knezevic] He looks over at Daoi, head cocking as he listens to what she has to say. Stefan gets a smile and a nod as he comes in.

"Good evening, Bone-Grinder."

[Neda Stevic] Neda tries to stay out of the way, just listening to the conversation and watching the only unknown in the room, Simon.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] [sorry, i missed the line on the file altogether *dies* *rolls with it!*]

"Understood." Lukas takes the file over, flipping it over. Truth be told, the numbers and statistics mean nothing to him. He reads the short summary at the bottom carefully, though, then closes the folder. "I'll pass this on to Joey. I might get Dr. Slaughter involved, too. She's a forensic pathologist," it turns out he does know the difference, "with a lot of firsthand experience with fomori.

"You two might find some benefit to working together."

[Simon Zahradnik] He looks at his hand and then Carter and then he lifts his hand to his mouth and sniffs it to be certain it doesn't stink or something. When he's sure it doesn't he shrugs his shoulders and enters."What was that guy's problem?"He asks Lukas as he enters a little smile is offered ot each individual as he enters and looks around."Sorry I am late all."

[Carter Roth] [Thank you all for the scene, sorry Carters such an ass but, hey such things happen. Take it easy!]

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] [it's cool man, i play my share of IC assholes. thanks for playing!]

[Daoi Gladecu] (send players to the post for Karthen Burke from fenceing fox and it'll give them the idea of what's in it)
to Lukas Wyrmbreaker

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] [will do!]
to Daoi Gladecu

[Stefan Knezevic] A small, amused smile is given to Simon. "You and I will have ample opportunity to find out, I believe."

He looks over at Neda. "Do you perchance know when you will be ready to begin your temporary stay at Doctor Glabrecu's? Merely so that I may know when to expect to see you there."

[Neda Stevic] The blink is so hard that it's nearly audible. Her mouthful of alcohol is swallowed, tone carefully modulated when she answers Stefan.

"I'm sorry. What stay where?"

[Nathalie Bystrov] ((sorry i'm late, something came up))

[Daoi Gladecu] *She raises a dark brow and looks from one true born to another then Neda*

[Stefan Knezevic] He also raises a bit of an eyebrow, albeit more in confusion than anything. "I was under the impression that you were joining those kinfolk of the tribe not directly under guard in your fellow doctor's home for the time being, with the mysterious and possibly Spiral kinfolk hunter on the loose."

[Daoi Gladecu] *Daoi shook her head*

I had not asked her, as Wyrmbreaker-rhya said he was going to look into her current roomate situation. So I had though you had asked her.

*She leans on her cane watching this unfold*

[Neda Stevic] She laughs quietly, but there's very little humor in it.

"No. I will not be leaving my home."

[Nathalie Bystrov] She's late. And the fact that she's late both shames and infuriates her. She slips into the meeting quietly, hoping to go unnoticed, at least for now.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] Lukas is about to answer Simon when Neda speaks up in protest.

The Ahroun pauses a moment. His cheek distends faintly as he tongues a molar. Then he sets his wineglass down with a sharp click and turns to the woman.

"We discussed this not forty-eight hours ago, Neda. You were perfectly willing to move in with Daoi then. If you've decided otherwise between then and now, I'll tell you what I told Carter.

"You're my kin. You're my family. I want to protect you. But if you choose to see it as oppression and don't want to cooperate, then so be it. Stay in your own home if you wish. Only I am not committing more of this tribe's resources to your stubbornness. If your foolishness leads to your death, I'll consider it survival of the fittest and move on with my day."

[Neda Stevic] She takes a deep, slow breath, holding it a moment before she speaks.

"I am not a child, Rhya. I am not simply refusing to come out of my room. Sasha and I live in a secure building with excellent security. We each have a weapon. It is an environment that I am familiar with and comfortable in. What sense would it make for me to give up that advantage in favor of the unknown?"

[Stefan Knezevic] He glances over, noding Nathalie's entrance and giving her a friendly smile and a raising of his glass in greeting. What is going on between Ahroun and kin at the moment...he's paying attention, but he's seen it once tonight. Albeit far more brashly.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] Lukas is quiet a moment. He gestures with one hand.

"Would you agree this building is in a good part of town, well-lit, and well-guarded by security?"

[Neda Stevic] "Yes, Rhya. Those factors influenced my decision when I purchased the condo. They simply become more useful in this situation."

[Nathalie Bystrov] She nods at Stefan, giving him a warm smile, slipping over towards Neda and Lukas.

[Neda Stevic] If he elects Neda's condo as the safehouse, that would be AWESOME :D
to Lukas Wyrmbreaker

[Stefan Knezevic] "I believe," he notes softly but clearly, "Cold Victory-rhya means the building in which we reside. Not to speak for him, of course."

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] "That was, in fact, what I referred to."

Lukas turns, goes to the table, inspects the spread of food and drink a moment before lifting the carving utensils. Metal rings off metal harshly as he whets the knife against the edge of the fork. Then he wipes the blade clean, turns it around, and hands it handle-first to Neda.

"Would you agree that this is a weapon?"

[Neda Stevic] "It could be. In which case, my kitchen is filled with weapons."

She doesn't take the knife, arms folded instead.

"I will stay in my home, Rhya. I feel secure there. Carter frequently spends the night. If you feel that there are safety in numbers, I have a third bedroom available that could accommodate another member of the Tribe."

[Danicka Musil] Perhaps oblivious to what's going on in the room, and what has gone on in the room, Danicka sweeps open the door and strides in, closing it behind her and walking towards Lukas. Her hair is down, sweeping her shoulders in soft waves. Her eyes are bright, her cheeks slightly flushed. Danicka wears leather ankle boots with three-inch heels that elevate her height to 5'9". She's long-legged and blonde and her breeding comes into the room like a perfume in Lukas and Nathalie and Simon and Stefan's nostrils, distracting enough that for a moment, it doesn't matter what she's wearing or that she's beelining towards the Alpha of the tribe

only to notice that he's mid-conversation (or what-have-you), and halting her steps a bit. And what she's wearing are dark denim leggings tucked into the tops of those little boots, gold zippers up the sides. What she's wearing is a few layers, a lace-edged camisole underneath a cropped green sweater. There's a cream-colored pashmina worn as a scarf around her neck, and she's got gold hoops in her ears and a ring on one finger but no other jewelry to speak of. Her lips are a pale pink, her peacoat is black wool, and her bag is a large Lanvin.

Lukas has a knife in his hand and her eyebrows hop up.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] As soon as It could be is out of her mouth, Lukas talks right over Neda. The knife remains where it is, extended in offering.

"Simon," he says, eyes on Neda, "do me a favor. Go downstairs, leave the building, and walk across the street. Then come back in unseen by security, return to this room, and kill Neda."

A beat. This may mark the first time in recent history that Lukas has not looked over immediately as Danicka walked in the room.

"Now tell me, Neda," he's saying instead, quite conversationally, "would you prefer that Stefan and I were close at hand to protect you, or would you prefer to be left to your own devices, with a host of human security guards and a weapon?"

[Nathalie Bystrov] "I could go back to staying with Neda, Lukas-rhya." She's quiet, head tilted to one side respectfully.

[Daoi Gladecu] (all I have to go it's very late for me)

*Daoi excuses herself to Stefan as she picks up her things to leave. Her pager going off*

Mr. Knezevic I apologize I must leave, my clutures are ready in about 30 minites.

*She nods to Danicka and Nathalie as she starts to limp out to go take care of her research*

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] [night, thanks for the RP!]

[Daoi Gladecu] (thank you Damon, I hope to play with you all more as we catch each other it's been a pleasure!)

[Simon Zahradnik] He nods his head back at Lukas and nods."Alright..."He says and turns to walk out of the room after hearing his command. He had assumed Lukas was making a point here so why not? Besides this sounded like fun... Sneak back into the building unseen and all that. So he does as he is ordered without question.

He slipped past Danicka giving a little smile."I gotta run... But I'll be right back. Enjoy the party."He says in greeting to the Bosses woman. Danicka and Simon never were friendly with one another but why not at least be polite?

[Stefan Knezevic] He nods to Daoi as she departs, and Danicka gets the same warm smile that others entering have gotten. He takes a sip of his wine, then takes a pierogi off his plate and eats it as he watches.

[Neda Stevic] "I hardly see why I would be safer in the home of a kin that values personal achievement over Tribe or Nation. I will stay in my home."

[Danicka Musil] Danicka lowers her bag towards the side of her leg, her eyes going to Simon briefly. The last time she saw him, really, was at a mixer not unlike this. In her apartment. It didn't end well, at least between the two of them. She doesn't quail, but she doesn't look at him for more than a moment, either. She just gives him a slight nod as he walks past her to the door, and then she looks back to the others.

"Sorry to interrupt," she says smoothly, her bag at her feet now. She reaches up to slip her coat off her shoulders, and starts to lay it over her arm. "As I haven't the faintest idea what the hell is going on here, but I think I heard her say something about another bedroom, and something about someone being willing to stay with her. Maybe we could put the knife away and prepare for Simon's triumphant-if-murderous return?"

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] Lukas grimaces. "Neda, do you honestly not see my point here? You can have the best security in the world. You can have a rack of guns at your disposal. Pit all that against a Garou, a bane, or what have you -- and chances are you'll end up dead before you can blink.

"Whatever your personal regard or disregard for Daoi, this is a temporary measure. If you're so foolish as to prefer the aid of kinfolk and guns to spirits and Garou, then what you're telling me is you would literally prefer to stand there and die when Simon gets back than let me protect you -- because you don't like Daoi."

A glance to Nathalie, then.

"I'm unwilling to commit our tribe's resources to catering to the wishes of one stubborn, selfish kin," he says. "I'm also unwilling to commit you, when the last time you two lived together you came to blows. But if you truly want to spend your time protecting Neda, and if you truly think you can restrain yourself and bring her before me the next time she disrespects you instead of simply putting her through a wall -- then I won't stop you."

[Neda Stevic] "How was it determined that Daoi's house would be the gathering place? What makes it superior?"

[Nathalie Bystrov] "I can and will. I promise. Neda will be safe."

[Simon Zahradnik] [Hey where are Lukas and Neda standing? And... How old is trhis building? Is there a fire escape?]
to Lukas Wyrmbreaker

[Danicka Musil] "Oh good lord," Danicka mutters, and walks over to a chair to lay her coat over the back, her bag on the seat. She glances at Lukas, then goes to the table where the food is. Finds some vodka. Wodka. Pours herself a shot. Glancing at Stefan for a moment, she lifts her brows at him, mutely offering to pour some for him as well.

[Stefan Knezevic] He smiles a little bit and raises his glass of wine, as if to say 'Thank you, but no.'

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] [it's Trump Tower -- it's brand spankin new and a sleek glass monolith. best way past security would probably be through the umbra *LOL* but lukas is probably going to call Simon off, anyway]
to Simon Zahradnik

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] "Daoi's house was determined to be the safehouse," Lukas replies shortly, "because quite frankly, she offered when you did not, and because she's far more useful to the tribe and the war than you've proven yourself. She gave us information we needed. You -- and your Carter -- have given me nothing but headaches.

"The discussion is over. You can stay in your home. Nathalie will check on you out of her own sense of honor and charity."

[Neda Stevic] She snorts, but says nothing.

[Nathalie Bystrov] "I'll keep you safe, Neda. No problem."

[Simon Zahradnik] Simon left and he made sure he was seen exiting the building. That was the beauty of the entire situation. Lukas wanted to prove a point and this was the kind of point that Simon attempted to prove again and again. Few kin wanted to listen, and few quite understood. Though he was less worried about Neda than some, she did not carry that potent strength of breeding that some did. Still Simon was asked to do a job and that was what he would do.

These buildings were interesting in and of the fact many quickly established an umbral reflection and this would be Simon's method of attack, and most importantly his means of remaining unseen. The Cameras have already established that he fled from the scene of the crime, but just to be certain he took the time to change out his hoodie and attire for something that wouldn't as easily be recognized in the event a camera did catch him.

From his car he made his way back under Chicago's glimmering skyline. The city was so brilliant from this side. it was here one could see the hopes and dreams of the city taking shape and form before them. It was also here one could witness the webs encasing everything around them bit by bit slowly sucking away the life and soul of this city. A battle waged constantly high overhead while Simon walks through the dark and dusty streets.

He passed the lobby, and the host of spirits that called it home. Mostly it was empty save for some cockroaches or rats scampering about. A spider or two are left untouched as he makes his way to the stairs. He wasn't here to fight and any Garou who wanted to live more than ten seconds needed to learn to pick his fights carefully. No he wasn't here to fuck with spirits in their homes... He was here to climb the building all the way to it's rooftop. To smile as he pushes past the door and glances out at the city at night. Simon was here because his elder told him to be.

Funny thing about that command. Simon knew full well Lukas would not let him kill the kin. Simon knew that Lukas was trying to make a point and yet Simon wasn't exactly the type to cry over much of anyone. Simon was born a soldier, and yet music played softly in his ears. There was something about his art that few understood... It was an art, a careful discipline that took more concentration and skill than most could fathom. There are those who might call him cold, and uncaring and indeed the surface would show just that, but there was more to the man than many would ever see or be shown.

Several minutes passed, however, and he needed to get back to the room. So he left the rooftop behind to wander down. He wanted to leave things to fester a bit, leave others wondering what might happen. Maybe they'd forget? Maybe they'd assume it was a joke and he wasn't coming back?

So it was rather amusing to him when he returned to the room in question. He couldn't be seen by the others present and yet he was there... Sharing the same space. He couldn't see them, but he knew where Neda had been and so he took the time to pry his senses across the gauntlet deciding to take a peek at what was happening and where his prey might be standing.

[Trying to peek... Guessing Gauntlet 7!]
Dice Rolled:[ 4 d10 ] 2, 2, 2, 10 (Success x 1 at target 7)

[Simon Zahradnik] [Others in the room might find themselves overcome with... A strange feeling like they're being... Watched!]
to Danicka Musil, Lukas Wyrmbreaker, Nathalie Bystrov, Neda Stevic, Stefan Knezevic

[Simon Zahradnik] [Ever got the feeling someone was watching you? That's cause they are... Peeking across the Gauntlet at you like a creeper!]
to Danicka Musil, Lukas Wyrmbreaker, Nathalie Bystrov, Neda Stevic, shamrock, Stefan Knezevic

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] [btw - posting it now so i don't forget - Lukas will call Nathalie later on and say:

"About Carter -- I don't want you to concern yourself with him anymore. It's not fair to ask of you what I doubt I myself can accomplish. I'll deal with him the best I can. Focus on Neda and try not to let her turn into another Carter."]
to Nathalie Bystrov

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] "I'm going to go find Simon," Lukas says, "before he actually kills Neda." -- and he walks out of the room.

[Nathalie Bystrov] "Neda. Maybe we should get you home, hmm?"

[Danicka Musil] The vodka Danicka pours for herself is a double shot. She doesn't tip it back and down it but takes it a mouthful at a time, her attention returning to the two Ahrouns and the woman Lukas had been handing a knife to when she first entered.

Lukas excuses himself, and Danicka's attention moves to the two dark-haired women. Her eyebrows raise a bit at Nathalie's words.

[Stefan Knezevic] He smiles a little when Lukas walks out, and then like Danicka, he turns his attention back to Neda and Nathalie. His glass of wine is finished, and then he considers before walking over to Danicka.

"I think, on second thought, I will have a drink. Wine, it doesn't seem, is quite what I'm looking for at the moment."

[Neda Stevic] "As you wish, Rhya."

[Nathalie Bystrov] ((Sounds good. she'll be happy to help with Neda))
to Lukas Wyrmbreaker

[Danicka Musil] Wordless, Danicka sets down her tumblr and picks up the vodka again, pouring for Stefan. There's a demurity about her manners, a quiet submission that does not need bootlicking and scraping to be sensed. It's a subtle thing, but it was lacking that night he had coffee with her and Lukas, even as she performed the same service.

The tumbler is lifted and held out to him, and she nods to Nathalie and Neda. "Since we didn't have a chance to be introduced: my name is Dani&+269;ka Musil. It's a shame you can't stay, but I'm sure we'll meet again."

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] It's a long and difficult passage across the Gauntlet, but eventually Lukas gets there. He finds Simon ... pretty much where he expected to find him. Lying in wait, feral and cunning as an animal. He's shaking his head as he moves through glistening steel webwork, ducking deftly around a weaver-spider that pays absolutely no heed.

"No point in trying to frighten sense into her, Simon." A faint huff of a laugh, "She's hellbent on winning the Darwins this year.

"You were asking about Carter when you came in. He's obviously been traumatized in some way in the past, and basically hates all Garou now and thinks we're out to Get Him. I'd have more sympathy for him if I didn't know others have survived through more than he could possibly handle without cracking the way he did. I'd write him off, but ... he's actively poisoning other kin against their own tribe. He's trouble."
to Simon Zahradnik

[Nathalie Bystrov] She nods at Danicka, respectfully. "A pleasure. Hopefully we can speak longer next time." She looks back at Neda, then around the room, taking a step closer to Neda. "So. Shall we?"

[Neda Stevic] "It's a pleasure to meet you, Danicka." She sounds wooden now, nodding vaguely to Nathalie.

"Yes, Rhya."

[Stefan Knezevic] "Thank you." Danicka gets a warm smile of gratitude when the glass of vodka is poured. She licks it up looks back to the two women.

"Have an excellent evening, Nathalie. Neda." There's no hostility in his gaze toward them, simply an amicable nod of farewell.

[Nathalie Bystrov] She gives Stefan a smile and polite nod, then puts her hand on Neda's arm and starts for the door.

[Neda Stevic] She's quiet as she's steered out.

[Nathalie Bystrov] ((g'night all))

[Simon Zahradnik] He hears Lukas but keeps watching. His attention focused forward as he shrugs his shoulders."Sounds like two kin we should worry about... We're not a tribe known for making stupid decisions. That is because we select against it, the last thing we need is to be wasting precious effort on kin who do not provide some specific value to us."He says before shrugging his shoulders."As for Carter if he's a problem you can always just deal with him."He shrugs his shoulders.

"I mean the last thing we need is kin poisoning our own tribe with lies about us. If he's weighing us down he's dead weight... You either carry yourself or you get cut loose right?"He asks curiously. Simon was very, very, Shadow Lord wasn't he?
to Lukas Wyrmbreaker

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] There's a brief quiet. Then, "To tell you the truth, I wouldn't have been sorry if Neda had gone home tonight and been killed. It's like I said. Survival of the fittest. As for Carter ... "

Ironic, but it's harder for Lukas to say this than for Simon. Lukas is the elder, the Adren. By all logic and prediction, he should be the colder of the two. But Simon is a soldier, pure and simple. Lukas has a family, a mate, a secret and cherished hope of cubs. A life beyond the strict and unforgiving boundaries of a war that just keeps

pulling him

back.

"As for Carter," he continues quietly, "I was completely prepared to kill him tonight. At one point, I was sure I would. If he had said one more disrespectful word to me, I would have turned and taken his head off. Not out of anger, but because I'd made up my mind that not shutting him up at that point would have been much worse than making him the martyr he wanted to be.

"What's worse: if it weren't for the fact that his harem was standing witness, ready to worship him as a martyr, I think I would have done it without hesitation. He's dangerous. He's insidious and corruptive, even if he doesn't mean to be. And I don't think there's any way to reach him now."

A deep breath, then, his hands coming up to push through his hair, lace at the back of his neck.

"Christ, this war makes coldhearted monsters of us all."
to Simon Zahradnik

[Danicka Musil] She's alone now with Stefan. He's so polite, so charming, so calm. He's nice -- well, what passes for nice when it comes to Shadow Lords. She's only met him twice before, both times briefly, and they are far from friends because of that. There has to be a distance between them, at least to an extent, because of who and what she is.

Danicka is young, still, in her mid-twenties though she looks several years older -- tiny lines near her mouth, her eyes, hinting at age brought on by moments, not years. She's well bred, though not as rich as Daoi's blood. Her lineage hints at what its members can boast of: fertility, for one thing. Health. It's hard to look at her and not feel some instinctive, primal certainty about the strength her cubs would have, the chances they'd be trueborn. She's beautiful, her features soft and welcoming but for a certain sharpness to her chin that seems to offset those wide-set green eyes and fair hair that might otherwise seem too young, too daft, too empty-headed.

Strong, healthy, cunning cubs she'll have one day...

...for Wyrmbreaker.

Which is why so many keep their distance. She's mated to a Full Moon, and an Adren Full Moon, and one who holds three Alphaships in this sept. She comes from a wolf who was elevated to Elder in her death, whose death came at a high cost to her attackers. She comes from two deep bloodlines, each with their own quietly glorious history, and now she belongs by Garou and mortal law both to a very dangerous, very powerful wolf. Should he pass, Danicka goes not unprotected, not back to her elder brother, but into the guardianship of a Garou of even higher rank, one whose distance from Chicago would not stop her from doing her duty to a widowed half-sister.

Garou of Maelstrom rarely look at her. Rarely speak to her. Rarely bare their teeth at her or try to enforce her submission. Walk on eggshells because her mate is a Shadow Lord, and they all know what Shadow Lords do to those who cross them, who touch what's theirs. All that can be assumed. All that lies on the surface, and on one need look deeper.

In any case: now Lukas has gone to speak to the Wyrmfoe, who in terms of the war effort of the sept may as well be his 2iC, and Danicka stands there with a Shadow Lord Theurge, drinking vodka and trying not to make comparisons. Not to Lukas. She could keep quiet. She has no reason to try and make friends with a member of the tribe -- she's kin. She knows her duty better, more intimately, than most. She knows that if he wants something from her, needs something from her, he'll go to Lukas and ask politely and offer chiminage and so on.

She drinks a sip of her vodka. "What on earth was all that about, anyway?"

[Stefan Knezevic] The young Theurge looks after Neda and Nathalie, a look of bemusement on his face. He looks back to Danicka at her question. The Theurge is relaxed and calm, outwardly, even more so than before when the moon was smaller in the sky and the situation less tense. Even inwardly, where Danicka has seen, he's much more relaxed. Though certainly not...normal.

"It is a bit of a story," he says with a light shrug. "The short of it is that there is clearly some animosity between Doctors Stevic and Glabrecu. As such, Neda did not wish to stay in Daoi's home. Neda is also involved with an unruly kin named Carter Roth, who caused a fair amount of drama here before you arrived. Neda was rather obstinate, and there is a situation between Nathelia and Neda that I am not fully aware of, other than Nathalie has been imposing on Neda some and Neda has dealt with it very poorly. So Neda being obstinate and refusing to move into a packhouse for her own safety, and showing some of the defiance that Mr. Roth had, led to the situation that you walked in on."

And that's the short version.

[Simon Zahradnik] He listens to his elder with a little smile showing on his face."We are soldiers in a long and endless war. It doesn't matter where you were born or what you were taught. I am barely more than a boy in my societies standards and yet I have seen more death than most battle hardened soldiers. We carry that with us Rhya. We live with it, and we deal with it. Sometimes we have to make hard decisions... We make them and we move on, we turn it off and we don't look back."He scoffs softly and smirks as he looks away.

"We're not monsters Rhya. We're men... With a very hard job."He says with a little smile on his face."No matter how fucked up you might think you are, the fact that you are capable of looking back and realizing the fucked up things you have done tells you that you aren't like them."

"The way I see it... I am their punishment. These shit heads escaped from the pits of hell and they sent me to collect them. I will never regret fighting, and one day dying, to clean this world up and make it a better place. Not once, not for a second."

He smiles just a little."If our Kin cannot understand us and what we do for them then we need to convince them, but if they cannot be convinced then we need to sever our ties. If they are poisoning our tribe against us... They are the enemy. I kill my enemies Rhya. Someone who poisons my tribe with lies is serving the Wyrm's purposes for it. He is creating division, and in dividing us he is creating more weakness to exploit. If we can't stand together when the time comes we will die."

"Every decision we make directly ties into this war. We must be ready to make those decisions..."He shrugs his shoulders."At least that's the way I see things."

"We've got a big enough plate as it is, what with the whole universe on our shoulders! We need to keep focused on our war and when we are not focused on our war then we need to be getting a few moments of rest and relaxation."

"You're not a monster, you're a man who must wear a monster's mask to scare the bogeyman away. The bogeyman is scary as fuck, so you gotta be scarier."
to Lukas Wyrmbreaker

[Danicka Musil] For what it's worth, Danicka listens to him completely, and quietly. She hasn't reached for any food, but the vodka in her glass is steadily disappearing. She doesn't wince after sips, doesn't cough or gag or wheeze. She is drinking it slowly, though. And it's smooth enough. Maybe that's why she doesn't look like she's drinking rubbing alcohol.

"Carter," she muses. "You mentioned him. The one who can heal?"

[Stefan Knezevic] 'That would be him, yes." A faint smile, less amused then thoughtful. "Apparently, he can heal everything but whatever grudge he holds."

[Danicka Musil] So far she has not commented on the girlyhate between Daoi and Neda. She doesn't know, she doesn't seem to care. Nor does she say anything about Nathalie and Neda, either. Carter, however, though she just missed him, seems to interest her. "You mean he can... heal. He's not a doctor or hedgewitch or something but he can heal."

Danicka frowns slightly. "I've never even heard of a Kinfolk being able to do that."

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] They are the enemy. I kill my enemies, Rhya.

It's funny. The last time those words came out of Simon's mouth, it was in regards to some angel-being that would not be swayed. Simon called it the enemy; felt no remorse. Lukas thought it deluded; wished it could have ended differently.

A few more months, a few more battles, one bitter, cold victory later -- this. And this time, there's no scathing rebuke. No debate. Nothing but silence, which must be read as agreement. And there's no real telling whether it's Simon who's grown wiser, who's learned to draw the line between neutral and enemy more confidently -- or Lukas who's grown just a little colder, just a little more willing to see the stark lines all around them.

You wear the mask of a monster, Simon tells Lukas. But he also says: I am the punishment. And Lukas hears the line there, even if Simon does not.

There's a space, and then he turns back. "You're a good Garou, Simon," he says quietly. "And though I know you wouldn't hesitate to tear me down if I grew weak, I trust you more than any other wolf not of my pack.

"I hope Gaia's plan for you isn't so harsh as you believe. There was a time when I believed something similar -- that I would be called on to sacrifice everything for the war. And that might still be true in the end. For you. For me. For all of us. But what I no longer believe is that in preparation for that day, I should simply shear myself of anything but the war. Because then I'm nothing. I'm just an empty shell. I would be the punishment, and when the war is won... I would have nothing left to give. Nothing left to help the world rebuild from. I would just fade away.

"And if you believe that's your destiny, then maybe that is how it is. But Simon, if you can find any happiness along the way, if Gaia stretches out her hand and offers you happiness in your pack, in a mate, in cubs, anything -- don't turn away because you don't think it's for you. Even if you have to sacrifice it in the end, it's worth it. If I've learned anything these last two or three years, it's that it is worth it.

"It's hard enough to wear the mask. It's something entirely different to be the punishment."

He's quiet then. Quiet for a while, while the younger Ahroun peers across the Gauntlet and the older looks across the strange, complex landscape of the weaver's web-strewn heart. Then Lukas puts his hand on Simon's shoulder, nods in a different direction than any that exists on this plane. Sideways.

"Come on. Let's go back to the others."
to Simon Zahradnik

[Stefan Knezevic] "As I understand it, yes. He takes on the physical damage himself, essentially, as I've heard it described."

A light shrug. He's seen a lot of things he'd have thought was impossible. He's a Theurge, and he's helped his former teacher deal with spirits that many don't even think of. He's learned about Dream Zones and other such places. And he's always prepared to be surprised, even if he avoids showing it in most situations.

"I have not either. A most rare individual, I am sure."

[Danicka Musil] A look flickers across Danicka's features at that -- the truth behind Carter's 'healing'. She's thinking. It's deep inside of her, but she nods slightly. "That's... interesting."

[Stefan Knezevic] "Interesting, but not very useful if he is determined to consider the Garou Nation his enemy." A shrug. "At this point, as much potential as he has, he is only a liability. He appears to be having a bad influence on those he encounters; both Doctors seem to have their own flaws that are magnified after prolonged exposure to him."

Yes, he did just described Carter like he was some kind of radiation. Why do you ask?

[Simon Zahradnik] He smirks a little and nods his head."We are all good garou, most of us anyway, even those I can't stand tend to have their own sets of ideals and principles that make them worth the time of day."He smiles a little.

"Honestly... I don't think much more about Gaia's plan for me. I know where it will end, and I hope that will be enough. Whenever it happens it will be bloody and messy as fuck."He laughs a little and shrugs his shoulders as he moves to join Lukas. There was a sense of finality in his last comment, because in the end all garou knew there was only one way out of this. Few garou ever die of old age. Most Garou won't even live to see their kids grow up, or hell even see their kids!
to Lukas Wyrmbreaker

[Danicka Musil] "It just --"

But Danicka stops herself there. She finishes the vodka in her glass, shakes her head as she sets it down. She lifts the bottle and pours another, glancing at Stefan's to see if it's emptied or not. It isn't; the bottle is set down again with careful quietness, the sort of grace that goes unnoticed because it is meant to be unseen, unheard. Like her.

"I'm curious as to whether or not Simon is currently stalking Neda back towards her place," she says instead.

[Stefan Knezevic] He chuckles a bit. "I imagine not. And if so, then Nathalie will hopefully be there to protect her."

He doesn't seem sincerely worried. Not that he's eager to hear of a kin's death; it is more a matter of confident in the Garou deployed to stop Simon. He's seen no reason not to be.

[Danicka Musil] Her eyebrows flick a bit. She shrugs. "I was thinking more that that would explain why Lukáš is so long in coming back, if he had to chase Simon down and stop him without debilitating him."

Cold, that. No mention of faith or lack thereof in Nathalie. No mention of Neda's safety or not. Just a rather... cool consideration of how long it will take her mate to come back. They do seem so very fond of one another, after all.

[Stefan Knezevic] "It is a possibility." He shrugs and nods. Yeah, there is about as much warmth and caring in this room as there would be the alligator pond at the Chicago Zoo just before feeding time. He finishes his vodka and reaches over to get the bottle and pour himself some more.

"I imagine that we will find out soon enough."

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] And then, rather without fanfare -- or bloodshed, for that matter -- her mate is back. The air pop-pops in their ears, rapidly displaced. One Garou, and then another, stands where only emptiness was.

"Sorry we were away a while," Lukas excuses them both. "We had a bit of discourse." He looks around, picks up his plate -- the food cooling now -- and goes to sit beside Danicka.

[Stefan Knezevic] He smiles when Lukas appears, straightening a bit. The apology is given a simple incline of his head. "Of course, Rhya. All is well, I am sure."

[Simon Zahradnik] Simon returns with Lukas in short order. The full moon's attention going to Danicka and then to Stefan! His smile showing through as he finds himself a seat."So you picking up any pack prospects lately?"He asks the Theurge curiously with a little tilt of his head. His attention on the Crescent moon as he looks him over. The other man was a Shadow Lord and that could be a good thing for his pack if he hadn't already found one of particular interest.

[Danicka Musil] Lukas comes back. So does Simon. Danicka goes tense when the air pops slightly, but smiles when she sees Lukas. She's still standing by the table, near Stefan. Gives a nod to Simon, then picks a new glass and pours a double of the vodka. Carrying it over, she walks to Lukas and holds the glass out to him. "We were just discussing Carter, ourselves. Stefan was explaining to me what had gone on before I arrived."

[Stefan Knezevic] And a nod is given to Stefan as well. "Welcome back, Bone-Grinder." A light frown though, when he asks about pack prospects. "There was one, but it is up in the air. Defiance. I plan to follow-up soon, but we shall see."

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] A shadow flickers over Lukas's face at Carter's name, equal parts displeasure and -- something else. He accepts the glass, holding his plate aloft for Danicka to choose from. Pierogis there. Stuffed cabbage, though different from the sort his mother made on Thanksgiving -- the sauce thicker, tomato-based, sweeter. And of course, lamb.

"A thoroughly unpleasant experience," Lukas comments. Then, perhaps rather unexpectedly, "You were here for the show, Stefan. I'm curious -- how would you have handled it?"

[Danicka Musil] [what was that something else!]

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] [- Most superficially: he thoroughly despises Carter. He thinks of the man as a sort of virus, openly infecting and twisting the kin around him. Or at least, the female kin around him. He wants to put Carter's face through a wall.
- Beneath that: he's worried about the whole Carter situation, about how it might blow up.
- Beneath that: he's uncertain he should've even let Carter walk out tonight.
- Beneath that: he's troubled. Not just annoyed or worried or even uncertain, but deeply troubled, as if burdened by some care or decision.
- Beneath that: he, perhaps surprisingly, doesn't actually want to kill Carter.
- Beneath all that: he's worried about how this might affect his relationship with Danicka.]
to Danicka Musil

[Stefan Knezevic] He pauses at the question, considering. "I have had three experiences now with Mr. Roth. The first, he was flagrantly disrespectful and basically told me to get out of the way so that he could leave. To be fair, I later learned that he had just healed someone and was in pain, but still. The second, he was being insulting to others, and I advised him that he could not have it both ways--ordering people around and talking behind their back and then acting offended when it is dealt with. And then tonight."

He pauses. "As I mentioned while you were gone. He is useful, and that should be taken into account. He also has his obvious past issues that he would never think of discussing with us, and most would take that into account, though in varying degrees depending on the person. Neither of these account for the fact that he is clearly having a negative effect on the two Doctors. Whatever their issues with each other, Doctor Stevic was perfectly polite and reasonable with me when I first met her, and Doctor Gladecu seemed more pronounced in her wariness when I visted her about her home, as well as tonight."

He pauses there, for a beat. "I know what Becomes-The-Storm would have done, and it would have been a lesson reinforced by no small amount of pain to let the lesson sink in. I saw what you did, and it was very reasonable. Me...I would likely have cut Mr. Roth completely loose, as he clearly has no wish to be protected, and his use to Tribe and Nation is poisoned by the vitriol he spreads. Doctor Stevic, I would have also let go until she realized she needed us. Even doing it on her own time, Nathalie is is spending time protecting a kin that doesn't want protection at the moment. And her time could probably be better spent elsewhere."

[Stefan Knezevic] [[Becomes-The-Storm-rhya. Never without the -rhya!]]

[Stefan Knezevic] He seems to be saying what he believes. There's no ring of insincerity to his tone, and he he seems to be following his own logic. It's thought out, but not tentative; there's a confidence to his tone and demeanor.
to Lukas Wyrmbreaker

[Danicka Musil] There are no hard stares from Danicka. They simply don't exist. Her eyes aren't made for it, round and verdant. She's been described as soft -- she is. As slender as she is, as long as those legs are and as much of a Manhattanesque vibe she carries with her when she walks, Danicka has an incredible softness to her. When she looks long at someone it can't even be called a stare, most of the time. She glances at Lukas briefly as she lowers herself to sit beside him, setting her glass on a coaster on the table to her right. She doesn't have a plate, but stood by the food for some time and expressed no interest in it. Maybe she already ate.

That one glance. That's all. She lifts her head and listens to Stefan's answer, now, and as his reply to Lukas fades, she glances once at Simon, then turns to pick up her glass. "I could speak to him," she mentions, rather idly, before drawing the vodka to her lips again.

When she entered she was one of several lesser-born granddaughters of Thunder. Now she's the only one left.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] There's a moment as Lukas considers the Theurge. No debate ensues - no deliberation on which points their opinions cleaved together, and on which they cleaved apart. Just a silence, and a scrutiny that ultimately does not penetrate far past the Theurge's polite, placid surface.

Then Lukas nods once, and the clarity and precision of his eyes relent. "Thank you," he says -- what about is not entirely clear. "As for the kin, I think it's fairly obvious that the less they see of Carter Roth, the better. Hopefully her involvement in the war will let Daoi see enough of what we do firsthand that she's not overly swayed by the rise against the oppressor! rhetoric. As for Neda -- it's possible that Nathalie could be better used elsewhere, but at the moment she's under light punishment for trespassing against my right of discipline over the Neda. She might as well act as a counterbalance to Carter's influence until I can resolve the issue."

Danicka speaks, then -- idly, almost offhand. They are quite different, the Shadow Lord and the kinswoman that is his mate. Where she is warmth and softness, he is all strength and darkness and lightning eyes.

"That could help," he says. "I doubt anything a Garou says will get through to him as anything but lies, manipulation and oppression."

[Stefan Knezevic] He nods at Lukas's words on the matter, clearly considering the issue more or less done. "I do not know if this will help with Nathalie and Dr. Stevic, but it is worth mentioning, I believe, that I think their issues go beyond the one incident. Dr. Stevic had mentioned to me that her houseguest had taken to poking through her and the Silver Fang kin's personal possessions."

A shrug. He doesn't seem to think to much on the issue personally. "I mention this simply because it may give you insight into their dynamic that may be useful in aiding Nethalie to reach the Doctor, and so you are aware of Nathalie's potential proclivities. I am sure that she would not extend such activities to include the territory of another Trueborn, and regardless Doctor Stevic has much to remember about what is appropriate and what is not. Being forewarned is being forearmed."

[Simon Zahradnik] He shrugs his shoulders."The man sounds like a menace to me... I would not expend any precious energy on him any further than one has to. If he's poisoning our kin with his words though he might be more dangerous if ignored."He adds to the group before taking a seat.

"I just hope some kind of agreement can be come to quickly and quietly preferably. We need all the help we can get, especially in the Kin department, I dunno if anyone noticed but..."He points at himself."Not so great with the people skills."He adds before settling back a little."Cept the dead kind. Do you call them people after they're dead or just carcasses?"He sighs.

"Strange that so much energy has been expended on one man already. Why don't we talk about Danicka? She's like... Useful."He says, in what might be his first attempt at a compliment to the kin. Well she DID hack that little drive for him that does make her useful to him!

[Danicka Musil] To Lukas, Danicka merely gives a small nod. She'll get his contact information later, perhaps go talk to him. Introduce herself, at least, to this healer. She listens more than she talks, but it's always been so. When she listens, her attention is complete, even if she doesn't make eye contact with the Garou. Simon chimes in with his opinion of Carter as well, and Danicka's face is the sort of careful blank that is even easier to achieve for her than the pretty obliviousness she used to wear.

Even just in this conversation, sipping her vodka and listening, it's evident enough that one would never want to play poker with Danicka. Not with anything worthwhile at stake.

Not so great with the people skills. Danicka lifts an eyebrow but doesn't comment, not even to help him with the question of whether or not dead people are still people or just carrion. Useful, he calls her, and she's able to read people well enough that she does understand he means it as a compliment, or something close to it.

"What would you like to say about me?" she inquires, since he suggested talking about her.

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] "Let Danicka have a try," Lukas says, apparently his final word on the subject. Sealed with the shot of vodka upended, and all. Wryly, "She does happen to be pretty good with people skills."

Simon suggests a change of topic; arbitrarily picks Danicka. Or maybe not so arbitrarily. In his own somewhat clumsy, not-great-with-people-skills way, Simon pays her a compliment. This makes Lukas smile, which in turn makes him turn away -- ostensibly to eye the food on the table -- to hide the crest of it. When he turns back his expression is back under control.

"I'm getting a refill," he says, an aside, as he gets up. He picks his plate up, too. When he comes back he has more meat. He also brings the entire bottle of 'potato juice', topping shotglasses off all around.

[Danicka Musil] [OMG HE CALLED HER DANICKA.]

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] [oh crap. Dani&+269;ka!!]

[Simon Zahradnik] He finds himself looking back with a little smile when she speaks up. Apparently she heard him, so he turns his attention to Danicka and nods his head."I would just say that we shouldn't be wasting so much energy on folks who haven't even shown us a hint of respect. Especially when we have kin whose use to the tribe has been shown."He says with a little nod of his head."Thanks for the help the other day... I got a lot of information out of that."He says with a little shrug, he didn't like giving it but he certainly felt it was warranted and couldn't hurt if he offered a hint of civility to the kin for a change. Maybe this meeting of theirs won't end in screaming and yelling?

[Stefan Knezevic] A little nod, and he smiles. "I should be going. The midnight hour begins to draws near, and I should performs some errands before I go." Each person in the room gets a little half-bow.

"Have an excellent evening. Should you require me, you know how to contact me." A smile and he males his way for the door.

[Stefan Knezevic] [[Thanks for the scene!]]

[Danicka Musil] Interestingly, the compliment did not make Danicka smile. Even knowing it as one, her expression doesn't soften towards Simon, nor in general. Lukas, perhaps not knowing she had a double shot of vodka while he was speaking to the Wyrmfoe, refills her glass. She sips at it thoughtfully.

"That's good," she mentions, as far as the information goes that she got off of the USB key. Stefan excuses himself and she looks up and over to him, giving him a quiet goodnight before she looks back to Simon.

"There are little things about you," she says, musingly, "that remind me of Lukáš when I first met him."

[Lukas Wyrmbreaker] [don't wait on me folks, i gotta jump in the shower! anyway, lukas would just quietly listen.]

[Simon Zahradnik] What she said came as a bit of a compliment to the man. He took it with a hint of a smile and a nod of his head."Well I thank you for the compliment. I am sure he's a very different man these days, but seeing as how he'd done well for himself I'm sure he couldn't have been quite as bad."He adds with his own little laugh, his smile showing as he looks around the room rather quietly.

"We've had quite a nasty past couple of weeks."He adds once more."It's nice to see people can still come together and deal with a problem I guess."He says as his attention falls on the door.

"I am thinking I might follow Stefan out if you and Lukas don't mind. It's actually getting a little on the late side and I should probably be headed home for some sleep."He says just before standing and giving a little yawn.

Can you make sure Lukas knows I've headed out?"He asks before heading for the door.

[Danicka Musil] He calls her useful and means it as a compliment. She says there are things about him that remind her of Lukas of two years ago and he takes it as a compliment. It wasn't meant as one, and he can see that easily enough as he thanks her for it. A quirk of her eyebrow. A faint huff of a laugh. Of course he thinks it's a compliment. Lukas is an Adren, Alpha, blah blah blah. And Danicka loves him. Something in common with Lukas when she met him might mean it's something that appealed to her, something she respected, god only knows what Simon thinks.

She shakes her head. "It wasn't meant as a compliment, Simon," she says, almost gently, but it seems she wants him very clear on what she was and was not saying. He seems to interpret her words -- and all of life -- according to some script he has in his own mind, at least on the rare occasions she's interacted with him. She doesn't let it go, and two years ago she would have simply smiled and told him he was welcome. Now she tells him: no. You're wrong. "Just an observation."

So: not an insult, either.

"Have a good night," she tells him as he excuses himself, taking another drink.

[Simon Zahradnik] Simon manages to get out while he's ahead and leaves a social situation that did not end with yelling or particularly evil glares! Yay!
