brawlers.

[-brawl-] [k, y'all know the rules. i'll start!]

[-brawl-] They're on the street, they're prowling, they're not in Chicago proper but up north, on the outskirts of Elk Grove, where those too-perfect suburbs start to crumble into something a little meaner.

They're here because that's where the signs led. That's where the scent point. That's where their instinct has led them, hunting, chasing, pursuing a vague sense across miles and miles of space. Someone's been up here wreaking havoc. Someone's not even pretending to be nice anymore. Patrols have run into mangled animals, beaten humans, corpses that the local police sweep right up and hush up.

A splinter element. A group so radical, so rageful, that they don't care anymore about the masquerade the rest of the Hive is playing.

There, on these broken streets, is where you'll find our heroes tonight. This lean, mean vicious collection of killers. The Ahrouns, the Galliard, the Philodox -- all-abreast on the sidewalks, passing under dead trees and leaning streetsigns, in the shadow of brick buildings and brownstones.

Up ahead there's a sudden cry from an alley. The sound of rude laughter, pummeling fists. Their instinct spikes inside them: that's what they've been hunting.

[Warcry] In the last day or two there's been a dramatic upward spike in Sinclair's willingness to take longer patrols, even double shifting it at the caern. She's volunteered for hunts, not been quite as willing to do things requiring the patience she's been learning since she joined the Unbroken.

Even among the Unbroken, only one really has any idea what's caused the surge of rage and intensity in the Galliard, despite the near-nonexistence of the moon in the sky. And Katherine isn't talking.

Neither is Sinclair, stalking with the Fury and the Lord and the Gaian. It was her Alpha who sent them, but she has not taken the lead on this. She has not spoken much to the others at all, in fact, until they all hear something up ahead. Then her sneakered footsteps pause and she turns to Sparrow and Simon, speaking quickly and quietly. "Bone Grinder, my Alpha has fought with you before. If you lead I will follow."

[Bone-Grinder] Simon stood tall and proud. No longer the new guy in town, though he was still young there was a sense of confidence and certainty on his face. He kept close to the others, excitement worn on his face, in his eyes. He wore the face of a man but he wore the mask of a beast. Nostrils flaring drawing in each and every scent around him... The hunt was usually a sacred ritual one which their kind took quite seriously and treated with the utmost respect but that same degree of reverence wasn't present on the Full Moon's face. Note he took this as seriously as one could take a hunt but there was spite and disdain in his eyes for tonight they were not hunting a beast worthy of respect. They were hunting creatures so lowly that the act of humanely putting them down seemed an insult to the act itself.

The sound calls to his attention and a smile appears on his face. He had an idea and looked at the surrounding buildings. He hears Sinclairs suggestion and nods his head."We should come at them from more than one direction."He says noting the sounds from the alley."Who here can move quickest? Two of us should circle around and come at them from behind while I and..."He looks at the other Ahroun."Sparrow draw their attention our direction... That sound like a plan?"He asks. It was his first real battle plan but Surprise was always a better tactic."We'll give you two a little time to circle around before we go in... Wait till we have them distracted. Attack from behind... Provided we're not terribly outnumbered this should be easy enough right?"He asks with a little smile as he eyes the alley.

[Kindly One] Alek doesn't speak up much, either. Of those gathered, she's only met the Ahrouns tonight, at least up front, face to face, using real words and everything. Otherwise, she just recognized them from moots and from around the caern.

She walks along, her hands in the pockets of her cut-offs, ratty old sneakers barely scuffing the pavement. She has an ear and an eye out for anything unusual. And then they hear the cry. Alek's head comes up, her attention trained on the alley, only coming back when the Fostern speaks.

A look to Simon, then. Dark eyes considering. They flick to the female Ahroun, then back.

She quirks a brow. "I can move swiftly enough," she says. She flicks her wrist, prepares to remove a few leather braided bracelets. "I have talens if you need them, that'll make it harder for you to bruise."

And while she's at it, she activates one for herself.

[-brawl-] From the alley: someone's sobbing gasping breaths, running. A laugh. Get back here we're not done yet! and Hold 'em. Hold 'em still. and

a dull whudd, the labored breathing suddenly cutting off, turning to retching.

[Resistance] It's not patrol, it's a hunt. An actual, honest-to-god hunt. Some part of her is incredibly, incredibly excited about this.

Who is she kidding, all of her is excited about it. These are people she hasn't hunted with before, though she and Kora and Roman did patrols now. They watched the territory Kora's old pack did. Call it duty, or whatever you want. She was quiet, and listened. WAtch and learn.

"Sounds good," she says. No real need for much more than that.

She should have words of wisdom, but all she has? I sthis

"We got this."

[-1 rage: yay inspiration!)

[Warcry] "I'll circle behind," Sinclair adds, with a nod to Alek and Simon. She is fixing a small button to her shirt, black with a quartered circle drawn on it in white-out. With a moment of focus, the symbol flares with a reddish-orange glow and then fades entirely from sight as though it burned itself out.

Her head comes up, eyes going to the alley as footsteps and sobs hit her ears. She frowns. "We need to go now, though."

There's a gourd in her hand, out of nowhere it seems, as she jerks her head to Alek and starts moving, heading to circle around behind. And she isn't waiting for further orders, and she isn't taking her time.

Turns out she really is pretty damn fast.

[-1WP for Resist Pain as well]

[Bone-Grinder] He nods to the others."Use your best judgement but don't let them know you are there until you strike."He says with a smile trusting that they will be able to handle themselves.

[-1 WP resist pain... And if I get a soak talen i will spend a gnosis to activate which gives +1 soak right?]

[Kindly One] "God damn it," she says, more resigned than angry, looking down at her wrist. She hands one to Bone Grinder and one to Sparrow (unless they're all duds now, sorry!), then moves after Brutal Revelation. Alek is quick, but she has to hurry to catch up, and hurry to keep pace.

[-1WP Resist Pain]

[Resistance] She is ready to go. Her muscles are tense, and there's a distinctly ready feeling about her. She takes the talen from Alek, a nod follows and a brief thanks. The talen gets used immediately and she waits. For now, there's not a real need to say anything.

[-1Wp, go resist pain]
[aaand talen if she gets to use it?]
Dice Rolled:[ 5 d10 ] 4, 5, 5, 7, 9 (Success x 2 at target 7)

[-brawl-] The blocks here aren't overlarge. Not as big as they get in the heart of the city, anyway. The Galliard and the Philodox race off, feet swift on concrete. Blurry storewindows and a few older cars streak past as they run. This area doesn't quite qualify as a slum, but it's getting there.

Then they're on the other side of the alley. By then all they hear coming from the alley is a low, wretched coughing. And the laughing. And the smacks of blow after blow landing.

Aw, this one's almost done, someone says. He sounds genuinely disappointed.
Yeah man, I hate it when it's over. Such a fuckin letdown.
HEY. HEY GET BACK UP, YOU'RE NOT DEAD YET. STAND UP, CUNTFACE.
Oh dude I think he shit himself. Hah! Fuck, he did! Man that is nasty! I told you not to kick him so fuckin hard in the gut!

Two voices. Easy prey for four Garou, right?

[-brawl-] [one more post from all, then inits! also, roll percep + alert with your inits.]

[Warcry] It takes only moments to get into position. Sinclair focuses on speed rather than stealth, and when there's cover of darkness and shadow -- or even just buildings and dumpsters -- she moves from homid to hispo as silently as such a change can take place, the gourd held in her jaws. It helps keep her from snarling when she smells (and hears) what they're doing to ...whoever it is. She is ready to go. She is only wishing she had a packmate here to tell them she and Alek are ready. To go, now, before whoever it is out there gets killed.

It's a belated moment of annoyance when she realizes she could have circumvented this lack-of-packmate problem. Oh well. Too late now. She flexes her claws against the ground, ready to lunge as soon as Sparrow and Bone-Grinder attack,

as molten steel seems to spread from her pores and up every strand of fur she now wears.

[Resistance] two targets. should be easy prey, right? Assuming these guys don't benchpress cars for a living, they should be fine right?... right? She's listening. There's horrible coughing, there's pain. Her jaw is clenched tightly enough that she thinks she might chip a tooth. Of course, this won't happen. It's not important, though, because what is important is her action. She draws a bag out of her pocket. Cargo pockets are a glorious thing, and she applies a bandage to her mid section.

She's perfectly fine, though the bandage looks like she's already bled all over it. The leech spirits are less than pleased with her at that moment, though it's been months. They are, however, not so displeased with her that she doesn't figure out how to make the talen work.

Once all is said and done, she's ready to head off into battle. Sparrow is an ahroun, life is short, brutal, and glorious.

[-1 gnosis, yay bloody bandages!]

[Kindly One] Alek follows the Galliard as quick as she can, shifting upward but stopping in her war form. None of her talens will respond to her. Oh well, that might make this too easy.

And when she hears that laughter, those taunts, she realizes she wants to take this nice and slow. Cut them up, bit by bit. She wants to give back the pain they've inflicted on another living creature, ten, no a hundredfold.

She touches the insides of her wrists, drawing forth wickedly curved swords, the blades dark and nearly non-reflective. Her lip curls, and she has to fight not to snarl.

[Bone-Grinder] He glances at Sparrow they stood alone but he wasn't exactly worried. This was his job, just like some people have to clean other peoples waste off the floor of the restroom he too has a dirty and uncomfortable job to do but it pays the bills. Well actually it doesn't even pay the bills someone else does that. Damn... Well there has to be something worthwhile about this job right? Oh right... He gets to kill shit. A grin and a nod to the woman before he strolls down the Mouth of the alley in order to join the two speaking.

He wasn't here to worry his ass about the dude on the floor. He was here to clean up a different kind of mess. He stepped out into view.leaving Sparrow to hide or reveal herself at her leisure he, however, did not hide himself he was the distraction... THe bait. But he was also a full moon and he's set his sites on whoever the hell the largest one present it.

[-brawl-] There are two men in the alley (and their unfortunate victim), yes, but up above, leaning on the fire escape and chomping bubblegum as he watches: someone else. There's something feral about his demeanor, and lazy. Simon would recognize him: he's the Ahroun that got away from them at the fight club a month ago.
to Bone-Grinder, Resistance, Warcry

[-brawl-] The Garou boil into the alley. Amidst trash cans and dumpsters, flyaway newspapers and filth-sodden cardboard -- their quarry.

Two men. They're perhaps in their early 20s. One's head is shaven; the other has lank, greasy hair. One's barechested. The other is in a wifebeater shirt. Both are intensely muscular, the sort of build that comes from substance abuse. Or something even more sinister.

Their quarry's quarry is crumpled at their feet, soiled and bloodstained, limbs twisted at strange angles. It's hard to tell if he's shaking or simply seizing. His face is unrecognizable, barely even human for all the blood.

The men turn away from him. They fix on Simon, and one, and then the other, begins to grin.

Lookit that. We got ourselves a volunteer.

Cracking their knuckles, they come forward.

No, he dies screaming. He dies shitting and pissing himself, hands scrabbling at the asphalt to try and drag himself away from the wolves, the huge, ravening wolves, who have no more pity or mercy for him than he had for anyone else.

Bone Grinder finishes what Sinclair more than began. The screaming stops suddenly.

And above, there's a sudden clatter. The watcher -- whom Alek was until now unaware of -- vaults over the edge of the fire escape. He falls, straight down, for two stories. He lands on his feet. Agile. Silent. His face is inhuman, neanderthalic, a leer. There are gleaming bracers on his wrists, a matched pair, steelbased, but with a sickly sheen.

Kindly One is the next to receive his loving attentions. Like her sister-in-battle, he lifts her. Unlike Sinclair, she doesn't find herself smashing into the nearest wall -- but straight down, brutally, onto the point of his knee.

[-brawl-] It's hard to watch: the Ahroun snapping the Philodox's spine over his knee, letting her tumble to the alley floor. Her legs are suddenly useless. The last lunatic sparks of her suddenly severed nerves are still firing in her brain as she slices at the foe -- once, twice -- but her angle is all wrong now, her hands unused to this sort of warfare.

She barely puts a dent in Sly. He has the audacity to laugh at her. Then he snatches at her blades, but she holds on tight.

That's fine with him. He'll just stomp her while she's down. Right where her back is broken. Really rub that in, so to speak.

[Warcry] Once upon a time, they were called the Warders of Men. Now they live in the cities by choice, by a sort of bizarre devotion to the creations of humankind. So perhaps, looking at it that way, it is not so strange that the purportedly most vicious wolf in this mix is the one who surrenders the expression of her rage -- which is boiling in her skull tonight, which is looking for an outlet -- in order to offer an outpouring of spirit for the sake of a human life.

There is no telling how scarred that human will be, by injuries or by whatever his brain comes up with to cover over what he sees tonight. Alek's very shape demands that his mind blur the events of the evening, find some way to make it real, to align it with what he knows the world to be like. But if the Garou live through this, it seems, so will he.

Sinclair seems to want to make sure of it.

So she heals the human and she very nearly kills one of the Ahroun's minions in a matter of seconds, throwing violence and mercy together in a clash that is at the heart of all she is. And then she gets thrown into a fucking wall, and lands on the asphalt, steel scraping stone. When she settles herself again and pins those ethereal, sky-blue eyes on their enemy yet again, rage seems to crackle through her like lightning, sparking off the tips of her metallic fur.

True to her name, and terrifying to any who hear it, Warcry lets out a short but powerfully loud roar, lunging for the Ahroun as though he is the source, the beginning, the cause

of every hurt she's known or seen.

[-brawl-] [....and he does. only. incapped!]

[-brawl-] The Ahroun had pain in mind for them. He had thoughts of throwing them to the ground, stamping his heavy boot on their heads. Hammering them with his heavy fists. Brutalizing them.

He had thoughts, perhaps, of breaking them to his will. Bending and warping them, crafting them into the sorts of frantic, fervent disciples as...

...well. As this one: slackjawed and horrified as his master goes down.

And then -- frenzied.

[Sly: Berserk!]

[Warcry] The last time something knocked down a packmate of hers, Sinclair -- quite simply -- lost her shit. She snapped. And she would have killed her allies, her friends, if one of them had not ever-so-neatly put her down with a gentle, nurturing throat-rip. But the moon overhead isn't in her phase, and this is not an attack on someone she cares for but an attack on her own person.

It doesn't make her frenzy when Vin sends her skidding across the asphalt. It just pisses her off. So a second later she's twisting back up to all fours and lunging at him again, going for his right arm. Even as she's rising up again, Sparrow is all but destroying the Ahroun and his minion is losing his mind. Not so angry that she loses her own, Sinclair changes direction and goes for the berserker minion. Even as she's moving, her fur is turning dark again, no longer glinting amidst the shadows.

[Warcry] It isn't enough.

Nearly killing the big guy wasn't enough. Killing him wouldn't have been enough.

She never even got her teeth into the leader, didn't get to tear his arms from his shoulders and feel all that hot blood splattering across her fur, didn't get to close her eyes as she pulled him asunder to keep his insides from marring the ethereal blue of her eyes.

And coming up behind the last of them while he deals with Bone-Grinder and Sparrow and Kindly One, locking her teeth in his neck, and pulling his head back so far that his spine snaps, his throat tears open, and his eyes roll back isn't enough. Arterial blood sprays the wall, sprays her allies, drenches the ground where this overly strong, overly tough son of a bitch used to stand. And it's not enough for her.

Making sure one more pollution-causing, misery-spreading, disease-sharing sheep of a human being lives to carry a bit of post-traumatic stress disorder around with him for the rest of his days isn't enough, either.

At the end of it all they have three dead bodies and one still partly mangled one. Kindly One is bone-shattered and pulling herself through the battle by what seems like force of sheer stubborness, which in Sinclair's experience is a rather consistent Fury trait. Bone-Grinder is walking wounded and not seeming to feel it. Resistance, who Sinclair has seen around but never really interacted with, is in pristine shape. Barring the blood all over her, of course. They're all a mess, but that's not unusual. That's not even unpleasant, at least not for the predator among them who can barely even pretend to be human on her best of days.

These are not her best days. And right now her humanity seems very far away.

The body drops from her jaws in a heap. She spits blood out and stands over it, chuffing out a breath. Her heart is beating like a hammer but there's no sweat to mingle with the blood. Looking at him, then around at the other corpses, Sinclair lets out a snarl. She swivels her head around to look at her allies, but their injuries will heal quickly enough now that they're not longer fighting.

Still.

From, it seems, the very air, she pulls two more gourds, and rolls them towards the Fury and the Lord who do not need them. Her head inclines, and she half-keens, half snarls: "Gratitude. Honor me with your acceptance."

It sounds like a request. A plea. It almost sounds like a fucking order.

[Warcry] [Correction: "...they have two dead bodies and one still partly mangled one"]

[Kindly One] In Crinos, a Glabro monster snapped her back. Alek can't help but be a little impressed by that. That takes strength. Some skill. A lot of guts. She's not admiring the man's tenacity, though. She's not thinking Wow, he's pretty strong. Neat.

She's laying on the ground, spine snapped, lips peeled back in a snarl, continuing to swing with a dark falcata. She's a Black Fury, a Mother, an Alpha. She's just as strong, just as determined, just as tenacious. The only thing that stops her is that crack in her spine, worsened by a well-placed boot. Her Gift can't save her from the damage.

Seconds tick by, and she has no choice but to lay there, feel the spray of blood soak into her fur, and wait for her wounds to heal. Her bones fuse back together, her spine realigns, and she slowly pushes herself up to her feet. She, too, looks around the alley. Looks for another enemy. Something else to sink her blade into.

She finds it in the alpha, the one she hadn't seen at first. Stepping over to him, she very calmly, very smoothly slices through his throat. A gourd rolls across the ground toward her when she bends to wipe her blades off on the creature's clothing. For a second, she just looks at it. Then she picks it up, accepting Warcry, Brutal Revelation's gratitude with a solemn nod.

And she gets back to work. There are bodies to be removed and an alley to be cleansed.

[Bone-Grinder] The battle was over and he actually felt better than usual. His first concern is on the others gathered around them. The ones who had fought by his side, the ones who had followed his plan... There was an unexpected twist but the plan itself proved quite sound. Flank the enemy while it is distracted... The young full moon still had lessens to be learned about battle strategy but it was apparent he was learning rather quickly.

He took the offered talen, and smiled a little."Thank you..."The crinos beast growls as it kneels beside Kindly one. She was severely wounded but she was alive. That was all that mattered to him... Next came the others. One in particular caught his attention with a soft little breath. He kneeled then he snarled... His eyes went sharply towards Sinclair. She was a member of the war leader's pack.

"This thing still breathes..."He says with a snarl."It might have information we could use."He says quite sternly. He hovers over it grasping the top of it's head and then it's neck to snap it and end the things life but before he does he looks back to Sinclair."Lukas is in charge of the war... This thing could be useful to us. Can you ask him what he feels should be done."Bone-Grinder was a Shadow Lord and an incapacitated enemy, corrupted or not, had information and knolwedge that could be extracted one way or another.

[-brawl-] There's cleanup to be done, of course. There always is.

Someone will have to get the battered, terrified human -- battered even now, though at least not nearly dead -- out of there. Will have to drop him off somewhere, or at least get him out of this alley.

Someone will have to clean this alley. Clear the bodies. Burn them or call down carrion-spirits, something. Someone will have to deliver the coup de grace on the Ahroun, and send his spirit on to whatever blasted homeland it might find.

They will have to decide what to do with those bracers of his, too. Sinclair knows their power. She's intuited it. They must all intuit how tainted those things are, how terrible it would be for one of them to put them on. They will likely not make that mistake, but perhaps someone will bring them back as trophies. Or perhaps they'll sink them to the bottom of the lake, never to be found again.

And,

eventually,

someone will think to track down the rest of the Ahroun's followers. They might slip into one of those fight clubs some night. Stand in the back and watch. Make sure all the aggression and violence are just that. Aggression. Violence. Some ball set in motion by the oppression of daily life ... but no more than that. Make sure that whatever fell influence this Dancer wielded has been dispelled. Make sure no one's running around the streets at night, taking out their aggression on helpless targets. Make sure no one's getting down a path of true ruin.

And with time, without the black charisma of their leader, the adolescent rebellion and charm of the fight clubs will wane. The guys in the fight clubs will slowly come to realize: hey. this is really stupid. They'll drift off, return to their 24-hr-fitness gyms and their morning jogs, their more benign forms of exercise and stress relief. Some might take up boxing. Others will forget all about this sort of thing.

One way or another, it'll end. The ending begins here, tonight.

[Warcry] [Wrap notes in OOC form, since it's late and I'm tired:
- Sinclair will take the bracers, once cleansed, and put them on the Wyrmpole.
- If Kindly One hesitates to coup de grace the Ahroun when Simon speaks, she'll just look at Vin and then shake her head, tell them to kill him because she doubts he'll talk.
- She'll report to Lukas about this as well.
- And then she'll find some fight clubs and, by joining in for a few weeks, thus further encourage the sheep that maybe this isn't a good way to spend a weekend.]

[Bone-Grinder] [Sounds good!]

[Warcry] [Thank you, Damon!]

[-brawl-] [thanks for playing, all! :D]
